Can someone please tell me how to create displacement/ texture maps for Vray for SketchUp.

I am also wanting to know how to create bitmaps, is this done in Photoshop from the original JPEG.

I would be most grateful if someone could point the way to HELP!

      Kind Regards.

The easiest way to make displacement maps is to just get your original jpeg, convert it to a grayscale image and then play about with the levels untill youve got something reasonable.

Im not sure what you mean by bitmaps, so i cant help you with that. (unless youre referring to the file format .bmp?)

          additional thing with the above.

          black- no displacement.
          white - the highest displacement.

sometimes, there are areas which you want to displace , but the when you desaturate the color they turn out to be dark, therefore those areas will be displaced a little. you can adjust it by using paintign and smudge tool in photoshop.

once you are done, i usually add another filter. gaussian blur filter a bit. i found out the displacement is much much better.

Note, you have to completely separate all the geometry, including hidden lines to a group or component in order for displacement to work. If there's some other geometry attached with a different material then displacement won't work.
