Sketchup's the best
-
What are the best aspects of sketchup? I'm pretty new to sketchup but I have already identified some features and ways of working which are unique and awesome. For example, I love:
•being able to delete a surface then select something behind it, hit undo and still have my selection made
•sketchup's inferencing abilities( with a little help from shift and the arrows)
•being able to operate on something (pull, rotate, whatever) then use a second finger on the wheel to orbit or hold down shift to pan at the SAME TIME!
What do you love?

Most of those features (apart form inferencing) are pretty standard in most modelling programs, really Doesnt make thme bad though!
Id say my favourite things have got to be:
Inferencing
push/pull
And the ruby people, who seem to have a nigh on unlimited capability to do briliant things that you never even knew you needed untill they come along and completely changed the way you work (for the better, of course.) -
Hi folks,
I would add its intuitive interface to my favorite things about SketchUp. Everything from the icons to the no grid background. Having used traditional professional packages for almost 15 years, even now they overwhelm me. SketchUp has an inviting interface.

It was even better
But I think its the name.
It says it all. -
Hi folks.
I love SU because it does'nt interpose itself between my ideas and the model being drawn.
Efficiency at its best.
Just ideas.

I am lately more and more impressed by the ruby integration - thats of course because of all the amazingly smart coders with their wonderful scripts.
what other application gets a major update / addon every month?

Even better is to set shortcuts for "hide" and "unhide all" and hide the geometry in front, select the geometry behind and then unhide all again. I use this all the time and it's zero-risk as you're never actually deleting anything, just switching off it's visibility.
