Thanks! There's something aesthetically pleasing about a simple clay render, though the version with lines looks good as well. Sorry that I can't critique your model, as I don't know anything about this engine. But I like models/renders of mechanical objects like this because it forces me to imagine how the bloody thing works!

RE: Stirling engine
I'd vote to see a color render for sure... cool pic! Maybe also add a shot of the plain clay render?

RE: :xmas card:
Veeeery nice! The scene has an ominous feel to it... intended or not, I dig it.

Oh I'll be following this for sure... can't wait to see updates!

RE: Landscape Job
Ditto on Carloh's comments... also, to me the blank patch of sky in the middle looks a little empty. It's a good break from the high detail of the foreground, but maybe add some faint scenery in post? This is nitpicking, of course... the pic looks great. There's so much snow in my yard right now I'm considering moving into your model for the winter.

And what a fun learning process it is! Maybe check out Rich O'Brien's YouTube channel as well... tons o' good stuff.

RE: How to model this? [Train]
Cleaning up the leftover geometry depends on whether or not the unwanted 'bits' are whole faces, in which case you can zoom in and erase away. Otherwise you could turn on hidden geometry and add lines in strategic places to keep the parts of faces you need, and then delete the remainder. Someone with more experience than me could direct you better here I'm sure.
Regarding the corner you mentioned... hard to tell from the pic what would be causing the texture issue. If you haven't already done so, you might make sure all of your faces are faced correctly (front face facing out). I've read that reversed faces can cause rendering issues, so maybe your game is reacting the same way.
Good luck!

RE: How to model this? [Train]
It looks like there might be a little left over geometry to clean up on the side, but otherwise it looks pretty good to me. It's troubling that TIG's tools wold cause your PC to freeze, (I have a relatively old Mac and I haven't had any issues with them), but I would encourage you to play around with them anyway. Useful club to have in the bag. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Too much you say? Apparently you don't live in my neighborhood. Great pic.

Have you checked out TIG's extrude tools? Those plugins opened a huge door for me when it came to creating complex faces.

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
That makes sense to me... thanks for the explanation. My issue is that I had already tried scaling the model up x100, and it still froze. Additionally, I've only had JPP work for me a small percentage of the time in the past, with models of varying sizes/complexities. It may simply be that I've got the wrong computer/SU version/plugin version combo. Until I'm willing to pony up the money for upgraded hardware/software, I really can't complain too much.
[edit] This might help... after I hit 'go' on a JPP process, the computer will think for a bit, the plugin status bar at the bottom will progress left to right, and the faces I'm trying to pull will eventually appear. The cursor will change back to a pointer and all will seem well. After I then move the cursor, whether right after the process or even several hours later, the pointer will change into a spinning pinwheel and I'm frozen. It seems like my computer might be freezing after the process is done.

TIG - many thanks again for the extra help! It's greatly appreciated.

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
TIG... fantastic! I don't suppose I could talk you into uploading your result, could I? I tried scaling up x100, and I once even let my computer go overnight. It didn't seem to matter how long I left it, I couldn't even call up the mac equivalent of the Task Manager after running JPP, the computer was so solidly frozen.

RE: Joint Push Pull Classic (Old version) - v2.2a - 26 Apr 17
Alainbo... thanks, that actually makes me feel better. I tried x10 and x100, and I segmented the big face into something like 15 segments. Frozen pizza. Perhaps it's too complex of a face for the plugin?

I'm another mac user experiencing some issues with this incredible plugin, (but I'm banking on user error). I thought it might be due to running SU 7.1 on a G4 mac, but after reading the previous posts I'm not so sure. JPP works for me 1 out of 20 times. The other 19 I have to hard reboot the computer. What I've tried:
- Verified the latest versions of plugins
- Scaled the model up (twice)
- Cut larger faces into much smaller segments, pulled one at a time
- Tried while grouped/ungrouped
- Removed all other plugins and reinstalled FredoLib and JPP only
- Many times I let the computer sit untouched for hours, just to make sure I wasn't causing the freezes by interrupting a process
I've attached a model of a simple curtain I'm looking to thicken by 1/16" (either direction). The model is cut into segments, and all segments would be JPP'd (verb?) out to the same thickness.
If someone could point out the error of my ways, or take a crack at thickening it yourself, I would be indebted indeed.

RE: NPR church
Absolutely beautiful... great work! I especially like the blue sky peaking through acting as an aura highlighting the building. Where is this church?

RE: Hello everyone!
From someone else relatively new to SU and this forum... welcome!
My tip, (which has been said by wiser users than me), would be to check out the tutorials on this site, read as many forum topics as your brain allows, and check back often... everyone here is super friendly and (except for noobs like me) extremely knowledgable.
Also, I've found YouTube to be a great help... I know I learned a lot from the videos from irishsketchup, among others.
Cheers!

Love it! The only wasted day is the day you don't learn something.

Dig it! Trying to decide if I like the center foreground tree cutting through the structure like it does... though I have to admit I didn't even see that tree initially so either I'm super-not observant or it's not an issue.
