    • Positioning repetitive textures

      Hi everyone!
      I would like to share a simple technique to achieve professional textures for high quality applications, using for that any photo editor such as Fireworks or Photoshop. The idea is match a simple texture in all their borders with itself, trying to keep a perception of a whole. So, better if we explain in practice.

      First, we must find a interesting texture to apply it in a repetitive way, just like this:

      Secondly, using a photo editor we flip the original texture picture following X and Y axes, as this figure shows;

      http://forums.sketchucation.com/download/file.php?mode=view&id=60810&sid=68a2407b96507f705ead4554efadebad

      So, as the example mentioned, second figure shows more proportional adjustment of picture for repetitive purposes, however, I would not recommend to use this technique for small-size textures, use it only when you use textures for small buildings or geometries.

      My best wishes

    • RE: Modeling tips for Google Earth

      Hi,
      I would like to contribute somehow; from my experience in Architecture in Chile, when you don't know how tall is a building you could counts their floors. In our normative (Chilean construction law) one floor represents approximately 3 meters. So, If you take a picture of a building in Chile with 3 floors and you don't know its height, you could use this formula:

      Building's height in Meters= Nº floors x 3

      http://www.masarquitectos.cl/contenido/cons_temuco/images/ficha.jpg

      e.g. this building in Temuco city (Chile) has approximately 9 meters.

      my best wishes
