RE: Need help stamping & draping onto terrain from Google Earth
I've been working through it to try and isolate the issues I am having.. I have several components within groups within groups in my model. If I already have most of the buildings drawn in 3D and they are individual components or groups within a group do I need to copy and delete them out of said group and place in the same group or layer as the terrain before stamping and draping?
Does a building have to be stamped directly onto terrain? what if I have a a face on a layer below the building? such as a large area of green or grey for grass or pavement (is actually adjacent but takes less time tan retracing the building perimeter).
Also, when I select the terrain (in the command sequence) the up down arrows move kind of drastically..

The terrain component isn't locked. I think I am getting the sequence wrong or need to adjust my settings / layers or something.
Does the terrain and the building component I am stamping or draping need to be on the same layer or need to be in the same component / group as the terrain?
I was able to "stamp" a few test buildings but would need to adjust their elevation. Do you use the down and up arrows in the stamp command sequence to just minimally adjust the pad height to set the bottom face of the component onto?
I actually jotted down some notes to make sure I was following the required sequence (below).
SEQUENCE – STAMP COMPONENTS onto TERRAIN
- STAMP
- Check bottom of component you want to place. If does not have a face, draw / create one.
- Position component above the location where you want it.
- Grab the stamp tool. (Mine is near bottom center of screen.)
- Click (anywhere on) component. (while component is closed, do not have to open the component.) (SketchUp automatically uses the bottommost face in your stamp as template for the flat pad it creates on the terrain.)
- Type an offset distance. (this is the perimeter around component that SketchUp uses to smooth transition between flat pad and surrounding terrain.
- **** Move cursor over terrain surface.
- Click. (on terrain surface)
- **** up / down ARROW appears. Slide curser up and down (but don’t click and drag mouse up and down to position the flat pad to the terrain)
- Click again.
- Use Move tool to grab component (endpoint, corner) to position onto the flat pad.
?
may have to clean up triangular faces after stamping (stamp creates)

Need help stamping & draping onto terrain from Google Earth
I am having difficulty using the Sandbox tools to Stamp and Drape my buildings onto terrain (geolocated from Google Earth). I need to place multiple buildings onto varying terrain, as well as drape / place roads, large concrete areas, parking lots, fences, and other features. I think I've got the commands / tools correct, but somethings not working out quite right.. thinking I may need to adjust the sequence of my modeling for the entire area - this is somewhat of an urban planning project.
Also, since i have multiple buildings and features as components and groups - is there a way to "stamp" multiple itmes / bldgs / items on landscape at the same time? or does each item have to be stamped separately because of changing topo?
thanks for any insight!!
