RE: New vray
thomthom....so if I set materials up for an object and started to overhaul my 3d import library, they should import into my projects with the proper material settings? If that is so....im pumped. That would be an awesome workflow change

thanks KXI, much appreciated

RE: Office Park Animation - Vue & SU
Very nice composition. I especially like the graphic work you did in the intro. I guess my biggest criique is the way some of your trees move...they look kind of awkward with that sort of movement to only some them. Minor things to a good piece of work.

RE: New V-Ray Animation - Desmone Architects Demo Reel 2009
Thanks guys. Im glad you all liked it.
Earthmover & Solo: Thanks for the feedback guys, always appreciated. Several of the sequences were still images that had effects just applied to them in after effects. That was a decision I made early to do since we already had most of the renderings finished, and I wanted to have this marketing piece as soon as possible while trying to minimize all the time that would have needed to be spent rendering tons of frames. It was a lot quicker, and maybe a bit more visually interesting, to just add effects in after effects. It also gave me more practice with that sort of work. Then I just mixed those sort of sequences in with actual animated camera sequences to still justify it as an animation and not just a slide show. I find that when animating, as along as you have some sort of movement (even if it is just a single frame being zoomed in/out) and mix it properly with other animated sequences that it can work for a project. But it depends on the client to I guess.
As for some of the sequences:
-The birds were a single frame that got zoomed out and I animated the birds in after effects in a seperate file and then imported them on a layer in front of the sky background, but behind the building that had a transparent background-the fire was the same idea. A single frame with stock footage of fire that we purchased and added in after effects
-The Leaves we added in after effects using a particle system plugin, but they were actually added to an animated camera sequence
-The glass door sequemce was one of the projects that I did the primary modeling in SU then renderd in vray for max. At the time, i just did it to use a project as practice in max, but then I realized the advantage of being able to animate objects in max so i did the cliche door opening sequence. not very original, but i didnt mind it.
Thanks again guys for the feedback, i hope i answered your questions clearly.
Dean: Thanks man. Yeah that will be a nice project for the city and that area in particular. We are trying to get LEED platinum for it all, and I think it will be a great symbol for the city moving in that direction. There are still a lot of obstacles, but hopefully it all works out. I always forget, how close to pittsburgh are you? Not far right?
Cadmunkey: Thanks as well...hopefully I will be able to work on the project and share images with everyone as the project progresses.

RE: Rough Sketch of a Soccer Stadium
very impressive for an SU animation. Congrats man. Its fun seeing more and more people have success with animating in SU. Keep up the good work

RE: New Twilight render...
i love the way you are developing your own style. The reflections on the street bring some really cool visual interest. It may be my monitor, but one thing i notice is that a lot of the images seem to be a bit oversatured. A small issue.

RE: First set of renders using SU + VRAY
you could try cgtextures for some really good free ones. and just search the google 3d warehouse for some scenes. I think they have some good ones. Just keep pluggin away, the more you work with your scenes the better they will get. Try avoid using those blurry background trees though

RE: Tridem's WIP with SU and Kerkythea
i think you are starting to develope a style, but the graineness/quality of the materials really takes away from making a good assessment on your style

New V-Ray Animation - Desmone Architects Demo Reel 2009
Hey all,
[flash=500,405:htrb96oj]http://www.youtube.com/v/H6x55vecTEM&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0[/flash:htrb96oj]
This is a demo reel of several projects I have been working on lately. Im sure many of you have already seen most of these projects in various posts Ive made, but in my free time, I created this demo reel to help market the company I work for (Desmone & Associates Architects) and our illustration/animation capabilities.
All of these projects started with modeling in sketchup and were rendered with vray. Roughly 70% was rendered with vray for SU, and the rest of the projects were taken into 3ds max and rendered with vray as well.
It was a lot of hard work, but it was a lot of fun as well. I hope you all enjoy watching it as much as I did making it. Feel free to comment/critique, and any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Also if you have any time and are interested check out our company website (http://www.desmone.com). The site needs a bit of an update, but we have a lot of excitement building, because we just got approved yesterday for possibly one of the biggest projects that pittsburgh has seen in years, No. 1 Grandview. Check out the links below if you are interested and feel free to ask any questions and ill do my best to answer them.

RE: ..."Night Scene"...Updated
definitely a great start...i think overall though the scene is too dark. You lose a lot of the detail. Maybe add a subtle HDRI for some environment lighting. I also agree about the verticles of the building. Minor things though to a great start. Anxious to see an update.

RE: House Flower 1 - Tulip
very cool, original graphic. I love the idea and the models/renderings are top notch.

RE: A couple of TwilightRender renders...Update 01-26
I think these are looking great...my only critique would be the quality of the skies, but the vegetation is really coming along
-
RE: Several New Projects - Sketchup & V-Ray
Thank you all for the feedback. All great points that will help make me a better artist and hopefully benefit others that see the thread.
Dean: Im really liking the working world. Its scary at times when projects dont seem to be coming in, but our firm seems to keep a decent balance. But I am glad you mentioned something about the image saturation; that is something I have been worrying about, because it is a struggle for me at times to pull back with things like that. I probably need to tone things down a bit. I hope my monitor is reading properly...Anyways, I hope things are going well for you as well.
The motion blur is another thing...I am so glad to feedback on that, because thats another example of something I thought needed to be toned down and hearing that helps make that more apparent.
I am also glad to hear people keep mentioning the skies, because i agree that they are too distracting and I, as well as many others, might benefit from some good sky resources. I get most of them from cgtextures or 1000skies and I think my library is running really thin, because most of theirs are pretty busy looking. Anyone have any good resources for free or paid ones? Also does anyone have good suggestions for sky gradients...I try doing it in photoshop, but they always seem to be lacking and I end going back to using some of these more busy skies.
But thanks again for all the great feedback guys, if you have any questions...please dont hesitate to ask.

RE: Couple new pool renders (Vray)
I think these are really nice images. The vegetation definitely looks better in some images than others, but still well done. The second to last image is the most convincing to me. Good work

Several New Projects - Sketchup & V-Ray
Its been quite a while since I have been able to post some work, but here are a number of projects that have been occupying most of my time lately. All of the rendered images were rendered with V-ray and the other few were SU exports that I took into photoshop and attempted to add my own "watercolor/marker" style. Some of the images received more attention than others, especially in the photoshop department, but the project deadlines left me no choice unfortunately. I should probably just start working faster, haha. But feel free to comment/critique, feedback is always helpful and greatly appreciated. I hope you all like the images.

RE: Vray practice
these are really nice images stinkie...im wondering why you dont use it more often as well. The program really works well in your hands from the looks of these images.

RE: DOF- V-ray for SU
yeah stefan...keep pushing this. DOF effects are great and often a challenge to accomplish in vray. Have any of you ever tried using photoshop plugins like "Alien Skin" software to get your DOF effects....I am looking more and more into it, but i dont know if i am sold on it yet. And Pete, im with stefan on this one and anxious to see some of your vray work as well. I havent been around on the forums as much as I would like to lately so I hope learning the software is working out well for you. Keep up the good work stefan.
