Yes, i miagine it is your graphics card (or lack thereof.) Id suggest going to window->prefrences->opengl and try turning hardware acceleration on and off and also trying fast feedback on and off. This should sort your problem out.

The final for client is with Vray for Max (even more realistic)
Realism is achieved with good texturing, lighting and imperfections.
