and once you're done on the computer, you have the rare opportunity to buy all of your required plumbing parts in a single go!

Absolutely, apart from the bit that you 'forgot to order/broke/spoiled/can't find' that you desperately need to get the system working at 11 pm on a Saturday night! (Couldn't see a smillie to show 'head in hands exasperation' or 'I wish I had never started this'!) However, it is always a golden opportunity to buy those nice, indispensable, tools that are essential to get the project done.

Very kind of you to say so jo-ke and indeed all who have commented. This model was definitely a case of form following function but it's where Sketchup is invaluable in getting through the many design iterations.

Hats off to you for some great modelling! I tried to model a car a long time ago and soon gave up, it was the curved surfaces that got to me.

a very slight 'grey' makes a better white than pure white

I sometimes use a feint fabric texture on walls/ceilings for the same reason. It helps to reduce the 'moire'? effect in renders.

Impressive! I hadn't looked at a Pano before and have to say that it's a whole different level of presentation. Intrigued by the substantial roof construction - is it for a helipad?

Thank you Bryan. Another view with the hot water cylinder insulation thickened to something like it should be and a cylinder stat fitted.

Great modelling and render. Really like the water ripples and the blue atmosphere within the pyramid.

Thank you Mike. As ever, a big thank you to Fredo6 for his invaluable Plugins. In this instance the FredoTools collection (Colour by altitude, Curvishear & Thrupaint) and Joint Push Pull (Thickener). All other modelling was done with native SU tools.

Thank you HornOxx! I just hope that my soldering and pipe bending skills will stand up as well.

    • Heating & hot water upgrade

Some practical application of Sketchup to plan an upgrade to my heating and hot water system. Much cheaper than a load of copper pipe bent to the wrong shape!

Very nice! Great paint job - it has 'depth' and you nailed the windscreen.

Impressive! I would promote the lower right hand image to be the main view. As you say, a matter of taste!

    • RE: Cast Iron Crank Wheel

At that size and weight I would take a guess that it is the flywheel for an oil or maybe hot air engine? Nice technical execution as always!

    • RE: Subdived test panel

Did you try this with just native tools? Add Detail in the Sandbox tools will sub-divide the faces and Flip Edge (same tools) can be used to get a smoother division if needed.

    • RE: Drive thru burger time!

Definitely taking shape. Already looks as though it is hovering naturally as a flying car rather than not having been provided with wheels yet! Also, I wonder if it dips down when climbing in - rather like a rowing boat on the water?

Personally speaking, I think it's a bloody fine render and realistically needs nothing else. In my humble opinion.

Agree! Great composition which leads the eye to the buildings stepping down the hill at the back of the square. Excellent.
