      The texture you used on the T34/85 is very impressive.
      Where did you get the bumpmap from?

      Well the textureas are not really UV mapped so theres no big deal about the bump maps. There are 3 different materials on this tank. The difuse layer on all three materials is a simple dark green colour. But the bump map layer has a seamless texture of some eroded metal i found on google. Reflaction/specularity layer is another seamless texture of rusty metal or something like that. I only adjusted the strenght of the bump maps and reflections for each material and than applied the right materials to the right parts of the tank. welds are flat geometry with just a material with strong bump map.

    • Living room design, advice needed.

      Hi All. We're in the process of arranging our apartment nad we got to the point where we dont know what to do with the living room.All the designing was done with the help of sketchup and vray. Kitchen and bathroom are finished. We have most of the stuff bought/chosen for the living room but dont know what colour to choose for the walls.
      Below are some colour options and i would like to get some hints from all the community. I personally prefer the dark gray suede finish paint but i'm not sure. The floor is actually even darker than the one on pictures, corner sofa gonna be red but im open to suggestion as it hasnt been ordered yet (we dont want it white!).
      the fireplace almost certainly gonna be the same as on the picture second from the bottom.

      Great job, shareck - details like weld seams and tow cables really add a touch of reality.
      Did they add significantly to the file size?

      Thanks. The welds are just simple geometry that have a material with strong bump map applied. The cable definitely increased file size but it was huge already so it wasn't a big deal.

      just want to share a video showing the sketchyreplay camera recording in action.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVbaSl-mqCg
      in this video, first thing you see is a twilight render that uses a number of scenes to animate the camera, next is video with a camera set to follow a trolley and track the tank, and last is a camera attached to the tank.
      This is all thanks to you Mr. K.

    • RE: SetCamera() function.

      Ok i got it to work. the box with the script must not be laying flat on the ground it needs to be in the air so it would movw (fall down) when the animation starts. But the other thing is that the camera doesn't tilt when the scripted box is being tilted. it always follows the line of horizon. Can that be changed?

    • SetCamera() function.

      first of all: i know nothing about ruby. i wanted to use the setCamera() function introduced in sp 3.1 but dont kno how. what i want to achieve is something like the camera script from the lazy script where you could make an object into a camera. when you play the animation the camera is positioned inside this object and is moving together with the object. any hints?

      Ok. Thats grand. But still i would like to be able to use different workflow. Let me explain this. It would be ideal if i could record animation with sketchyreplay (so that i drive a car around a track for example). Than i would play the animation setting up scenes every x number of frames so that the camera follows the car. Than i would export the aanimation using sketchyreplay export function and what i would like to achieve is the animation with physics objects and moving camera.

    • RE: SketchyReplay with scenes (pages)

      well yes. but still theres no way you can make things like double wishbone suspension because if you add weight the joints will still stretch a bit so the wheel will not stay straight upright, and the additional weight would make the matter even worse. I know you can add 64 other joints and objects to make it work but it only complicates the whole thing and still is far from perfect. And you see, the thing i do most with SP is tanks like this: http://www.youtube.com/user/shareck#p/a/u/0/9HQ_BjE8Lhk and while in this example it seems to work OK, in most cases the stretching of joints makes the tracks behave like they're made of rubber and thus to make the tank turn is a very tricky task. I figured out some walkarounds to make things work but if somebody could make them bloody joints stiffer i would be more than happy.

      Actually made a small script you can use for that too:
      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=3b5f693f76f5df15dfda4e320b343f5c

      Copy the yellow box into your models and it should do the trick.

      The flexing joints are how the underlying Newton physics engine works, I don't think it can actually be fixed with scripts, so the only way to really fix this is making the objects bigger to increase the connection strength

      I've tried that yellow box before and it doesnt work with sketcghyreplay. it only moves the czmera while animation is being played. And with the joints i really don't know. but cphilips mentioned somewhere before that there is a value in that pphysics engine for joint strenght and that it isnt set to maximum. This thing is really anoying because adding weight only helps a tiny bit, the stretching remains almost the same.

      Good job Mr.K. But would it be possible to modify the sketchyreplay function so that it changes the camera position according to sketchup scenes. So you would be able to set some scenes and than export your recorded animation with the camera moving from scene to scene. and also to be able to specify how many sp frames it needs for each scene transition. and if you already modified sp files and you know whats what maybe you would know if its possible to make the joints less rubber-like?

      Another two images. This model is actually the one i built for sketchyphysics animation so it doesn't have that many polygons and small details are faked in textures. Its the same model with two different textures.

      Dear Shareck,

      These are excellent models and you are to be complimented. The level of detail is superb. Do you work from drawings or from photographs? Is the building your Tank Museum?

      Kind regards,
      Bob

      Thanks Bob. I work from blueprints to get the basic size/shape and proportions right. Than i use loads of pictures for all the details. The building is just a bulding i modeled based on this picture:
      http://www.barbadospropertylist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/warehouse.jpg
      . I wanted to render something like the picture but couldnt get the sunlight right.

      Some zimmerit would be nice πŸ˜„

      You know that UV unwraping does'nt exist in SU and using other applications is limited or difficult. So to put a zimmerit texture on any of these tanks would be a very challenging task and im not up for it.

      Hi. Still learning V-ray and decided to render some of my old models inside a building i modeled myself. Models were done in Sketchup. Renders were touched up in photoshop. Post processing gave verying results. some images are over-done others are better and one of them i really like (guess which one). Also, im sharing the warehouse model with you and hoping for a rendering contest. I couldnt get a nice light inside just from sun so please give it a try yourself, and if you use vray please share your settings.
