      Fantastic collection Patrick.

Over at FormFonts there is a horse & buggy by Alan Fraser that would look right at home in front of these models. Another idea is to model something like an old ice delivery truck to help set the mood when you assemble a street scene.

Thanks for sharing your images. They are inspiring.

    • RE: Google Earth into Sketchup?

Charly, at the recent 3dBaseCamp, it was noted by the SketchUp developers that the resolution of the terrain will (if the data is available in Google's database) be imported at a higher resolution if your grab area is smaller. For instance, if you have a smaller building site on the island then grab it as well but making the grab only as big as you need. It can allow you to get higher resolution where you need it most by combining it with the big grabs.

They also noted that the terrain in SUv8 can actually be higher resolution than it appears in Google Earth. SketchUp now has access to the same source database that is used by Google Earth. The difference is Google Earth down-samples if the database file has excessive resolution whereas SketchUp can bring it in full resolution if the grab area is relatively small. Apparently there are some limited areas of the world in the database that have resolution the equivalent of 6" contour intervals!

Michalis, your low-def rock texture renders really well in FotoSketcher! I attach my earlier example given a quick watercolour makeover in FotoSketcher. I only wish my real watercolour skills could get as good a result. I particularly like the how the rock rendered.

    • RE: Reception Desk...

The lines on the ground are what I call a 'ground effect' created using a transparent png image placed on the ground in SketchUp. The intent is to 'ground' the drawing as I knew I'd be showing the image with a white background. I created a few different png's I use in situations like this. It works well when you have a series of views and you want to assemble a presentation that takes advantage of the white space.

The horizontal louvres are intended to both provide some screening & be indicative of the turbine blades on a jet engine. The desk was for a company that does complete overhalls on jet engines.

    • Reception Desk...

Rendered with the current beta of the Render[In] plugin. As you can see they fixed the smoothness issue of the first beta release.

The design is a glass & stainless steel reception desk "front" that could be attached to a standard steelcase desk. It was for an aerospace firm that had the capability to do all the stainless steel machining in-house. The intent was they would put a logo in frosted vinyl on the vertical glass panel.

Thanks Michalis for sharing the lowdef rock. I had fun playing with it. My image features Alan Fraser's little girl from the FormFonts collection and is rendered using the beta of the new Render[In] plugin. Its sky generator is one of its best features.

See that round thing in the kitchen? That's the elevator to the 29,000 square foot luxury bunker eight stories down. The indoor pool, bowling alley, theatre, holodeck, and koi pond are all in the bunker. All the rooms above ground are just going to be used by security and the mother-in-law when she visits. [You can't really imagine his spoiled children accepting those tiny bedrooms and a shared bath can you?]

Oh and what look like garage bays are really car elevators. The collection of supercars are all underground.

Hmmmm, i wonder if it got windows? 😎

No, just LCD monitors that display what you'd see if you were looking out a window. Apparently the design team have already had a team out shooting HD video footage of all of Job's favorite places. If he feels like looking out the windows to see Tibet he'll have only to select that program. The lighting & HVAC will also be coordinated to complete the "iPlace" effect. It is the perfect system for a nostalgic vampire like Mr. Jobs. He'll be able to experience looking out on sunny day on the French Riviera -- something he can't really do anymore since becoming a vampire.

*** In the spirit of full disclosure I must acknowledge I have a wee bit of a chip on my shoulder when it comes to Mr. Jobs. I've been a little bitter since he used my name without permission on his computers. ***

Beautiful rock formation and render Michalis.

Along the lines of Sepo's comment that maybe a tree or bush might add scale, I wondered about a cliff diver. I hope you don't mind that I quickly tried adding one in to test the idea. Although it messes up the fine composition of your image I think a diver would work in establishing scale.

      My first thought: Awesome images!
My second thought was about an old motel as a setting for such a concert and a worry. I can imagine the upper level's exterior walkway being overloaded with many more spectators than it was ever designed for. Since it wasn't in the news I trust that it didn't collapse.

    • RE: More Photovoltaics...

As requested by Henk, here's the PV solar panel texture I used. It looks like the design used on PV's manufactured by Sharp.

I had used a texture on the steel but the render (Render[In] plugin) shows some artifacts. I've brought those issues to the attention of the plugin developers and am hopeful they'll have the texture-related issues solved in their next beta. They've fixed the earlier problem where smoothed geometries were appearing faceted. Now they are nice and smooth.

      Regards, Ross
