I don't draw with solids. Need a tool to check all the other things I draw to look for possible overlap conflicts between components, groups etc. 'Tile components' "intersecting" 'cabinet components' for instance...

Yes Dave, I thought of the Dynamic Component thing too but I thought it best to ask for just the static stuff first.
The whole point of a 3D model is, as always with paper, to solve these problems whilst an eraser can still be used to fix problems. I'm was hoping a Ruby Guru could just whip up something and I have to believe that something like this would be useful to all of us troglodytes who are foolish enough after modeling to actually try to MAKE our model using "Materials" such as "Wood" or "Metal" or "Glass."

I was remodeling a kitchen (in the real world) and had some adjusting to make a cabinet door work right after wall tiles were applied. If I had drawn an existing "Walls Component" then drew Cabinet Components and Tile components I might have spotted this in the drawing. What would help in drawings, more complicated than this of course, is a plugin that would perhaps Intersect With Model and make the newly generated lines bright Pink and generate a text list of intersections and components involved. I could check these and fix the situations that need adjustment. Maybe Better, a new layer and text labels pointing at the new lines or just at the components involved.
This request is based on my apparently 'archaic' view that machines are to make MY LIFE easier not for me to spend all day figuring what they want to prevent a crash...

Great Plugin Adam! I ran this on the "723 SPRING STREET" Sketchup file and I couldn't believe how large the percentages were for the VELUX window components! Lesson learned. If you're importing anything into your drawings run this to see if you haven't imported a jillion faces.
I don't want manufacturers cutting down on detail but how about a second component line that is just visible faces...
