What is that supposed to be? The References section for the GPU definition? That says nothing relevant.

And no, this chip is -not- shared. Don't you have any sense? There is no other GPU in this system.

      It is IGP.

= Integrated Graphics Solution = shared graphics solution = low-end

You clearly do not understand this chip, or are badly behind the times.

Then why isn't this noted in the System Requirements?!

      it is:
      • 3D class Video Card with 512+ MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.

Are you meaning to say that my IGP does not meet these specs?
Do you think that this is an ATI Radeon or an Intel based card?

no registry tweaks are required to run SU w/o any probs in the environment it is made and released for

      Wrong.

drop a note when found, am keen to see the replacement tail 😄

Think I'm helping you, with this attitude? Think again.

a shared/integrated graphics solution is surely fine for office/browsing/videos and maybe gaming but never a good choice for using in connection with a OpenGL based 3D modeler.

but fully hardware accelerated for mpeg2 and h.264

irrelevant for SU, great for youtube

This is not a shared video chip. It is IGP. Is SketchUp not intended to run on IGP? Then why isn't this noted in the System Requirements?!

And do you think I've bought my computer to only run SketchUp?
No sir. The tail does not wag the dog.

ignoring system reqs. with claiming problems related to the violation of them at the same time seems not to be very clever to me.

Ignoring users' legitimate problems with SketchUp seems not to be very clever to me.
Do you think I am trapped or imprisoned by the time I've invested learning SketchUp? Think again.

      You don't mean this.

The fact is, over a period of many months it has been necessary to make Registry modifications to get SketchUp to run in even the most rudimentary way. This is not tenable, and I can not understand why you are irrationally defending this.

I am not arguing anymore. I've gotten what I so badly needed out of it when it let me down, and it's time for me to look for a more Linux-based solution.

The video driver is the latest stable nVidia driver available. (180) I have the 9300 IGP, which is not only OpenGL, but fully hardware accelerated for mpeg2 and h.264.

My only options are to run SU in VirtualBox XP, or in Wine. I am not switching any of my systems to Winduhs for any reason. I have the latest Guest Additions installed in VirtualBox, which is supposed to include OpenGL support. I don't know what more I could have done.

However I now find that in order to run SU 7 it is necessary to make two Registry modifications. This at least got SU working well enough for me to get out the information I very much needed. But I am very doubtful now about SU's reliability for future work; it really seriously let me down when I needed it the most.

I can't make Sketchup work in XP or Wine.

In XP when I start it, I get 'OpenGL failed'.

In Wine when I try to install it I get:
      Downloading files to "C:\windows\profiles\carl\VSD35a1.tmp"
      (7/27/2009 3:56:19 PM) Downloading 'InstMSI\instmsiw.exe' from 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=37286' to 'C:\windows\profiles\carl\VSD35a1.tmp'
Download completed at 7/27/2009 3:56:33 PM
      Verifying file integrity of C:\windows\profiles\carl\VSD35a1.tmp\InstMSI\instmsiw.exe
      WinVerifyTrust returned 1
      File not trusted

Microsoft doesn't even trust a file from its own site?!

Looks like the time I spent learning Sketchup was wasted.
