Couple of updated images, 3 new houses, a bit of land and a lot more trees. The Google Earth data for Belfast was recently updated, we guess its about 12 months old and I patched together a number of screen grabs to get the image.

Gai,
That distant thudding sound you can hear just over the horizon is the sound of some violent head on desk action here in Belfast!
I don't use sandbox for creating surfaces and I completely forgot it has the other tools for draping and stamping!!
Now if you don't mind I'm going back to reshaping my desk.

RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Here you go, one animation.
It has that damn shadow flashing as the camera passes through the shadow of the street lights but other than that its OK for a WIP. -
RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Did an animation last night, 2700 Tiff's at 2048x1536 totalling 15.8Gb!! It only took about 9 hours.
I'm squeezing them into an avi at the moment and I'll post a version on YouTube in a bit.

RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Hi, Kris
Thanks, This is just the existing streetscape, the proposal is still being designed. I've already done 5 versions from a simple block model to an 'almost' working design but until the design is signed off I cant really show it. -
RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Just out of interest what do you get when you click on the Live Maps link?
I'm not sure if it brings up the link or just a UK map

Tina:
Thanks, I'm going to do a test one tonight, just up/down the road etc to see what the timing going to be like, I'll drop it on youtube later. -
RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Solo,
Thanks, its clocking in at 15.5mb at the mo.
I've got 3 major holes to fill in front of a couple of buildings and then if you want to have a go its yours. Should be about 2-3 days work but I think my boss wants me on something else for a couple of days, so it may be next week before It's renderable.I forgot to mention that our office is the blue'y grey/terracotta building at the end of the terrace with the big bay windows. Tends to make the site visits a bit of a chore; all that traveling and such :ewink:

Here's a few images, again its WIP but it gives you an idea of what's to come:
This one's just a test but it looks good:
Edit:
Here's a link to MS's live maps that shows the area in 3D

RE: WIP - Appartments in Belfast- Update 2007-10-26
Thank for all the nice comments guys and gals, its a fun project as there are no drawings and all the building are being built from hand measurements and counting bricks from photos. I`ve done a couple of proposals of the intended scheme but they were only done for discussion and had a life span of about 4 hours before they were invalidated.
Nigel
Their on the Malone Road up past the Botanic Inn. I put a Google map link in the first post if you want to have a look.I Should have move to show next week as I'll have the survey data on Monday and will enable me to get the buildings in position in x, y and z.

RE: WIP Animation
Hi, sorry I didn't reply sooner but I've been away this weekend.
Changing the speed of a clip:
In Premiere Elements right clip on the clip and select 'Time Stretch...' you will be presented with a dialog. change the speed by typing a persentage value.Remember if the clip is trapped between 2 other clips it will not be able to 'expand' its length so will get truncated to the available length. To get around this, drag the clip to a clear area of video track, change its speed and then rearrange the other clips to make room for it.
Notes:
On the same 'Time Stretch...' dialog there is an tick box called 'Reverse speed' this will play the clip backwards. You can put in '-' values for the speed eg -25% will play the clip backwards at 1/4 the original speed.
Hope this helps.

RE: 3 Animations on Youtube
Ok, I'm going to produce my first tutorial!! but as I'm crap at them you'll have to wait a bit whilst I sort it in my own head and then try to unjumble my thought on paper but here are the basic steps that I'll flesh out and illustrate in the tutorial.
-
Export the scenes(animation) as TIFF's at twice the resolution you require, so if your animation is going to be 320x240 you should export at 640x480.
-
Sort the massive folder of TIFF's into individual folders for each sequence ie SEQ-001=Scene1-Scene2, SEQ-002=Scene2-Scene3 etc. (I have a script for this)
-
In Adobe Premiere Elements (or Pro) set up the project for your 320x240 animation.
-
Import each sequence in to Premiere.
-
Scale each sequence to match finished output.
-
Apply the 'Reduce flicker' setting to each sequence - This if the killer setting that magically improves the finished result.
-
Drag the individual sequences on to the time line
-
Add titles at beginning / as an overlay / at the end.
-
Export the animation in what ever format you want (I use cinepack)
-
Feel smug (Optional)
Advantages:
High Quality output.
If the computer/shetchup crashes during stage 1 then you've only lost one sequence not the whole animation.
If there is a problem in the model/animation path etc. then you can fix and re-export just that sequence.
You can speedup/slowdown/change colour/add effects etc. to the finished product in Premiere.Disadvantages:
Massive size of the exported TIFF's, 100Gb is easily achievable when each image is ~10Mb.
Laborious drawn out process to get the finished product.OK, that's all for now, I'll try and do my best to get the tutorial done asap in a readable fashion!

What is it you want to know?
I haven't done any tuts (yet) but if you've got some specific questions then ask away. -
RE: 3 Animations on Youtube
Gaieus,
I'm not too sure when this incarnation of the church was built but its defiantly victorian.Once I started to mentally dismantle it so that I could rebuild it in SU I realized just how mechanical it was and how many details are repeated all over the place.
Its almost as if the original architect went out of his way to use mathematics in the design.... very victorian. The design of the main columns appears everywhere, on the altar, in the roof, on the confessionals, at the front door etc. etc. etc. There is one profile that is used over and over again, its most clear as the detail that runs the length of the church 'supporting' the timber legs of the roof, its again on the altar, confessionals, rails etc.
My boss keeps mentioning (threatening as far as I concerned) a model of a monastery that in this neck of the woods but just for once I'd like to build something that was designed in the last 100 years or so.
