RE: What are you listening to?
That is one sick video. It's like a horrible accident that you can't look away from. I like Closer better.

RE: Things that really piss you off
What's pissing me off right now?
A former employee who was terminated for beating up a coworker at the job site who has now filed a discrimination claim against the company.
I am totally pissed at the former employee for abusing a system that was created to protect people who have truly been discriminated against.
This was a vicious, one-sided attack, not a fight. I have a confession from the employee (who says she lost control), witnesses and the police report from the incident. There was no discrimination.
And for the 5 minutes it took this former employee to fill out one simple form, it is costing my company hours to respond to all the questions the EEOC asks. The former employee does not need to furnish any proof or answer any more questions. The company is considered guilty until it proves itself innocent.

Any progress on Part 3? I learned so much from Parts 1 & 2!

RE: Cemetery Chapel
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Everyone here is very encouraging.
No,Gaieus, I didn't make the roof vents a component. I did each slat on each one individually. I forget that SU has such valuable, time-saving tools. I get too caught up in the drawing.
This is the first model I've done with absolutely no components. I wanted to work on solving drawing problems by hand. I think it was great for learning just what I could do on my own, without borrowing other's components.
I did speed up the cutouts on the tower by creating a 3x3 grid of them on a box in the air and copying and moving them to where I needed them to be.

Cemetery Chapel
Hi everyone.
I've been working on the old chapel at a local cemetery. The model is based on photos with no measurements available to me. I also took a little "artistic" license with the design. Any advice or critique is welcome. You won't hurt my feelings, you'll just help me do a better job.
I created the cut-outs in the bell tower from squares and triangles. I was very excited to accomplish this look.
I did the roof vents with a pull and a move. That took forever. Thanks for looking!

RE: My very basic second project
I like your house. Are you going to have a sidewalk from the drive to the front door?
Please post your rooms as you go. Can't wait to see them.

RE: Another house I'm using to learn Sketchup
@daniel said:
Nomicrowave, you might want to try putting some items such as cabinets, doors, windows, furniture, etc. that you can turn off while working on other parts of the model. That might help you with SU freezing.
Now that you have modeled two houses from a plan service, are you going to try designing your own. Or maybe altering one of those? That's where the real fun is.
I went through the entire house and made levels for each area like the roof, outside walls, inside walls, etc. so they could be turned off. I also intersected everything and created components out of things like the kitchen bar and the porch roof support beams. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'm not brave enough yet to design my own. I need to learn the sandbox portion of Sketchup and I have also requested a download from SU Podium that I'll have to learn. I know absolutely nothing about construction and design but I can follow good directions.

RE: Another house I'm using to learn Sketchup
Thank you, I'm going to save the drawing.
I don't know why we're getting the 404. They are still on the server.
Going to try another link and see if it works. It goes to the whole gallery for this house.

RE: Another house I'm using to learn Sketchup
Thank you Masta. That worked perfectly on the rounded corners.
Oh, yeah, I watched all of Aidan Chopra's videos and saved them to my favorites. They are very easy to learn from. Now, my memory of everything he teaches is not so good. Like somebody's signature I saw, I have a photographic memory, I just can't get it developed. (Not an exact quote, it's as close as I can remember). LOL
Thanks for the info on wall thickness. I didn't think to add the drywall. If the plan said 2 x 4 walls, I just used 4". This is the first house I did. I used the overall dimensions in the plan for my base, then built walls within those dimensions. That didn't work. So, on the next one, I made a base bigger than I could possibly need and cut it down after I had all my rooms in. That worked much better.
I've worked a little more on the kitchen.

Another house I'm using to learn Sketchup
Hi all. Here's another house from houseplans.com that I have been using to learn. One thing I have found out, you can't use double walls with their outside dimensions. I wound up with a tiny bathroom. haha. Should I not use double walls?
Here's the link to the plans. http://houseplans.com/plan_details.asp?id=22087
I drew everything except the door going to the carport, the stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, and bar stools. I got those from the warehouse. That rounded bar and counter are giving me fits. I also made up the car ramp. In the picture, I think it goes in the back but its not on the floor plan and I liked having it in the front.
How much power do you need to keep Sketchup from freezing? It's happening to me more and more as I get more details put in. I finally set the auto backup to 1 minute.Next I'm going to play in the sandbox.
Thanks for viewing,

That's what I forgot to do. I didn't add TG_ to the thin glass material. Thank you!

My first decent render with Kerky
Ok, here's my first decent render. This is my desk in my living room (minus the papers scattered on it, haha).
I did the render with Kerky. The thing that bothers me is, I haven't figured out how to light up the windows like it's daytime outside. Anyone know of a tutorial that I could use?
Thanks for looking,
