I'd like one but scary. All this surveillance is great in some ways but who watches the watchers? That technology in unscrupulous hands is a very powerful tool.

    • RE: Similar product to AutoCAD

      Sorry guys

Now I've installed it, it is a trial. However Gaieus I would say that it is totally legal, very similar to IntelliCAD. Did anybody find the price on the website? This standard version does not have the 3D tools but it is not save disabled so not totally useless, for 30 days at least.

    • RE: Where do you work?

I've just set up my own business. On week 2 of this business my computer died. Currently, (while I'm waiting for my house sale to complete so that I have some money) I have a "guerilla office". I work from friends design practices and familys offices. I turn up at my old bosses architects practice and use his plotter. If they've got CAD I'm begging time on their computer. At the moment I've got six clients and I'm determined to deliver the design work on time and this experience has actually really made me aware of what is essential to the jobs completion - nothing unecessary. I've become very resourceful. I set up my business bank account today, the bank manager thought I was mad, but once I have some money I'll be fine.

      Hi all

I'm really struggling with alot of work at the moment, really sorry I keep making unfulfilled promises about the transfer stuff. I will get into it. This is one of the many things I've been rushing to finish. I tried to render it in Kerkythea. I don't really know what to do with Kt but the client liked it.

Nice site Jon. You should be proud. I only wish I had one to share as well

      Eric,

I built the site using Moonfruit. It is an easy to use online template program. I know nothing about HTML or flash or anything like that. http://www.moonfruit.com
We built the basic site in an hour.
If you haven't heard of it, I think Moonfruit is perfect for SU minded people. It is deceptively simple but has loads of functionality. On my site everything is a pre-made template - the movie feeds, jukebox, there are e-commerce facilities too. You can extensively customise the basic features, but most of them look so good anyway.
It isn't lame software, there seem to be quite a few professionals that build their sites using Moonfruit, there is a quite famous English singer called Louise Redknapp who has built her official site using it.

You can build a site for free, that is paid for by a small Google Adsense banner, but we paid £50 and that has given us enough bandwidth for 5 sites! Second one underway.
Also you don't have to have "moonfruit" in the domain title if you own a different domain name. Also if you pay, their tech support is free, and they answer your emails in 24 hours.

      Thanks Eric, Mark, Tom, Alpro

I was actualy a bit nervous about revealing the site to you all, not sure why. I drop by this forum most days and I always have lot's to say (I'm sure you've noticed!) but I don't post much work here really so maybe that was why. But some friends looked at it a few days ago and made good comments so I thought I'd tell you all about it. I think I will have to bite the bullet, learn Podium and render everything from now on. The finished results I'm getting in SU are actually fine for my clients but I think our business would definately benefit from that capability. I have tried other renderers but gave up too soon!

      Thanks again!

      Thanks Ross, Alpro.

The trampoline was done by my colleague Dave, so I'll have to ask him how he did it, I think the technique is well established though. Grammar and spelling is very bad I know, please feel free to point out other things too. Much appreciated.

    • RE: Paint is Great!

My dad worked for 30 years in Cad Cam in the aircraft industry on "stste of the art" tape drive computers that filled rooms. Now he is amazed at how fast Sketchup can render a hidden line view, that was time consuming stuff when he was using CAD.

Did you notice the woman in that video bares a striking resemblance to Gillian Anderson?

I used to have a Sinclair ZX Spectrum+ 48K, really cool about 1983. It came with a drawing program called Vu3D that must have been state of the art in its time. It used polar coordinates and keyline entry. After hours of keying stuff in it could create 3D rotated objects, extrusions and did a shaded view. Tended to crash alot though. Actually it's beginning to sound a bit like AutoCAD.
