Stop the violins! Please stop the violins.

Done in sketchUp, yes? What a great story board tool.

Well Roger, I didn't model it myself unfortunately. It's a model of the artist Max Grueter and I believe he does his sh*t in Cinema4D.

You can import all sorts of things to Sketchup, but why can't we model them? 😑
I can't tell you how many times it annoyes me that Sketchup still hasn't got the ability for organic shaping....after so many releases.
I stay hopeful though...and start to learn Silo 3D (and Zbrush for texture painting?)in the mean time as it looks this is the most easy poly subdivider modeler around (and powerful)...
i don't know what software to use to have bones and rigging for characters though.

You just can't learn them all.

Kwist, can you please stick to posting artwork that was actually 'made' in SketchUp, rather than artwork imported into SketchUp? This is a SketchUp renders forum, meaning models we create in SketchUp and render using other software. If we start posting imported geometry then soon we will indeed see ZBrush renders here as well, imported into SketchUp. It is not SketchUp work, it is other 3D apps work, which doesn't belong here. So please stop posting this stuff.

I have no issues with SketchUp work that contains some imported objects from other 3D apps, but use common sense to determine yourself when something is generally called a SketchUp project and when it becomes artwork created with other 3D apps with some imported SketchUp content.

I'm only posting this here because you recently already posted that female figure render .

                Thanks in advance. πŸ˜„

                Ouch, 😳
I am surprised by your reply Coen, and it makes me sad not be allowed to post my creative doodles.
Guess I am done posting anything new on the sketchucation gallery after reading your opinion.

Actually the model of the two fighters is a Sketchup model I found on 3Dwarehouse from the hand of Max Grueter. On his website he states he's using C4D for modeling the characters. After the modeling is done he exports to Sketchup and posts his wonderful stuff on 3Dwarehouse in .SKP format. (You can find the model here: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=cdb99a191135d79f9be65b44b6b037de )

I merely took his model and tried to render it in a creative way using Sketchup and Podium (which is a typical Sketchup based renderer).

I am sorry to see this is disturbing you so much.

So I guess this means good bye for me....
Soo long Sketchucation ....I had a wonderful time here and you were a good mistress. 😒

I hope to see a lot of you guys on other battlefields.

                Cheers,

I will try to take it another way Gaeius....
but if I am not allowed to post these things, the fun for me is just gone.
I will still be around to check on the technical sections of the forum.

                      Kwist,

I think I understand what Coen is saying. We all will start to lose focus of what Sketchup can do if all we start seeing is imported work into Sketchup. Anyone can import others work and hit render. What this forum is for is showing the power of Sketchup and what can be done. Take Monsterzero for example, his Skethcup work is far better than most work I see in a MAX or C4D forum yet it is modeled in Sketchup. So I guess I have to agree with Coen on this one.

                      Best regards,

                      Scott

Love the fact that some HATE my avatar.....

I think rigging and posing are far different than the modeling itself. I use other programs for rigging and such but 99% of my modeling is done in Sketchup. Modeling just takes time and it takes you pushing yourself to become better. Nobody will be modeling like Monsterzero over night.

Well, something like Scott is saying. I'm just not a man of words now (in the middle of the transfer...)

                          http://users.atw.hu/swb/smile/almos.gif

There's really no reason to get hurt - I'm pretty sure Coen did not mean it that way either. And I'm sure that if someone else says this, you don't react like this. Why not take his words just as easy as those of any others?

I don't know about the others either...

I can understand the viewpoint you guys share, I really do.
If only I had the capability to model like Monsterzero.
But isn't he also using Maya to rig up his characters?
And isn't Solo using 3dsMax and Poser to make his beautiful poses?
I just love to see Solo posting his character stuff here.

                            Cheers,

One thing I can say is that a bad model will very rarely (if ever) make a good render. A good render is due to a good model with attention to details in the model itself. It is about the small things that make people say "I would not have thought of that" or "that really makes it look real". I model fairly simple furniture pieces regularly and have found to make them really stand out (especially when rendering) it is about details such as beveling edges to catch the light and create realistic lines. With the 3Dwarehouse coming online I get the feeling that people think modeling is easy and quick and it can be but to make models that truly represent reality it takes time and effort.
                              Sorry for the rant.

Yeah well, 'double standards' and 'censorhip' are two things that come to mind.

I dont think anyone should get sore on this one. Coen meant it in general and I also agree
with him - gallery for SU and gallery for outside renders that are done on su models, but on the other hand people including me are posting everything on these pages , jokes ,links not relevant whatsoewer to Su . I mean we are here to make friends as well. So there should be a space for this kind of topics , at the bar or somewhere like that.

this is a touchy subject.. if something's on 3d warehouse or formfonts or wherever sketchup models are distributed...it should be fair game.. i'm sure there is a ton of stuff on formfonts that was modelled in 3d studio or something..
