Interesting table,do you know if the tops were solid or veneered? I would not think of this as a Wormley piece. Nice model!

Really nice models! Should be a good game, Pats all the way.

RE: Mod Bed & Nightstands
Nice model again! Wish I had time to model some of the thing I have made.......As for layout I am headed there to add that to my very basic tool kit. It is time for me to use it to better communicate. Not going to use it for shop drawings just for a better presentation of "sketch" ideas.
Hope the shallow end is good and I can get it going easily. -
RE: Plugin central
Nice model. If I was to make one not sure I would have the patience to model it. A few pencil lines and I would be off the wood pile. Not much room for joinery at the legs. I would like to stuff in a small tenon but guess it is just a glue joint.

Doors and frames
I am going to be making doors and frames out of cherry with glass panels for 3 openings for two closets and a bathroom. I have chosen to use Soss style hinges from either Techtus or Sugatsune.

Made in Germany, TECTUS® is the most comprehensive concealed hinge system for premium flush doors.

Sugatsune America - Not Found

The Sugastune are less costly and all of their products I have used in the past are of top quality. Does anyone have any experience with these hinges? I have used Soss hinges and like the adjustment capability of the Techtus and Sugastune as the Soss hinges need to be machined right on.
SketchUp question - Nested components. I originally made my doors as a nested component but found it was a bit of a pain in my (really bad, needs lots of work) work flow. When do you guys use nested components?
Thanks

RE: Small Parts storage
HornOxx
I thought about cleaning my shop a bit for a picture, but that thought somehow did not get put into action.
If you need to make this mobile you could put a handle on top and a door or stops on the front so the trays do not slide out.
The plastic storage trays are of low quality and and the tops do not secure as well as you might like, if this is something to go to a job site consider better trays -
Small Parts storage
I have been spending too much time in my shop looking for fasteners, small parts or going to the local Home Depot only to find out they do not have what I am looking for, then finding them in my shop. So my solution was to buy some plastic storage cases and put them in a rack. Harbor Freight part number 61881/94458 worked well for me. On sale they a $4 ea. I made 2 racks and they are mostly filled up, Boy do I have a ton of various fasteners and small parts! A few of the trays are heavy after I loaded them up and the system works well. All I did was screw the runners to the trays. Don't forget plenty of wax on the runners.

RE: Wendell Castle, 1932-2018
His work ranged from amazing carvings to a custom piano and everything in between. I was very lucky to have meet him and tour his studio in 1978. He had a Queen Anne chair with a hat an coat draped on it, all carved out of mahogany that was the most amazing carving I have ever seen. Every time I see a Queen Anne chair I think of his carving. I recommend people check out his work, you will not be disappointed, Wendell Castle was an amazing artist.
Thanks Dave for letting us know. -

RE: [Plugin][$] VisuHole - v1.5a - 01 Apr 24
I have some some great uses for this plugin in my modeling, thanks. But when using Drill thru with nested components I get expected results. When using carve I do not see the colors of the nested components. To see the colors I would need to go clean up the model. Is this to be expected with this plugin or operator error? Top model in my example has been cleaned up.

RE: Room Divider - Added 2nd Model
I have a couple of thoughts but would like to see the back 1st. Is the carcass to be out of solid or sheet goods? I really like your render, I need to start to render, what do you use?

Plywood rib needs to be easy to modify
Good morning
I often need to model with plywood to show the support structure. For this model we will be working up a design for a fin tube cover with a Corian stool, HVAC grill and front plastic laminate panels on z-clips. I typically model what I need, add a wood color and call it plywood. I decided that I wanted to make my models a bit fancier so I decided to make my plywood look correct. Easy to do but I ran into a bit of a wall and would like to get some feed back as to how you guys would solve the problem. Here is the challenge. Once my model is given to the design team and general contractor I know I will be redoing it 6 to 10 times as the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, installation and users all provide input and then our production department, CNC engineer and draftsman also add information and details. So my goal is to have a componet that is very easy to redo and adding the "look" of plywood makes it hard to reconfigure.
I went down a few rabbit holes playing with a piece of plywood drawn as a nested component. Would like this to work but I do not know how to cut holes in it and have it still look like plywood. Is there a plug in I should consider?
So my process is to always save my model as a blank with the correct geometry. That way I can go back to that and change the geometry easily, then make it look like plywood. I make it look like plywood by added color to the whole part then copy and paste the outline of the part, so I get my plywood lines. I then finish by adding and darker color to the cores. Any ideas on a better way to model this?
One issue I have not yet solved is how do I model the plywood correctly when I am asked to add a 3/8" radius around it? This is easy to add before it looks like plywood, but then making it look like plywood that has had a router run around its perimeter is a lot more work than is needed for this type of model.
Looking forward to your insights
Thanks
Jeff

RE: Room Divider - Added 2nd Model
I want to second David's suggestion for the stretcher and legs. The center divider breaks up the bottom cabinets too much for my taste, I would suggest and 1/8" gap between the cabinet door and drawer front to give the bottom the look of one cabinet. Nice render!

Thanks for you quick reply but I am unable to duplicate your results. Maybe the screen shot can help

RE: [Plugin][$] RoundCorner - v3.4a - 31 Mar 24
I am working on knife and when I use the round over tool I loose faces. A copy of the handle is at 1000x as I wanted to show that scaling up does not fix the issue I have. My model is at the origin original size and it has a volume.
I have used this wonderful tool many times before but I seem to have developed this model in a way that is not compatible with the round over tool.
I used Cuviloft to skin if that is a factor. Also I welded all the perimeter lines hoping that might help, it did fix some issues.
Thanks
Jeff
