This is just little orientation that could maybe make your boat easier to make.I just wanted to show you how you can make your boat more beautifull.Removeing some dots and lines can make it better and correcting some of the lines as I show you on image .NIce boat btw

As I can see it looks like he is useing sketchup,mesh looks little bit terrible because some faces inside are still there that should not be so it is not smooth.Removeing them it will look again nice

I added the sketchup style created by Ross Macintosh wich can be found on http://www.formfonts.com
also colour of background is blue-gray and I added little fog effect and little difuse glow in photoshop.But Ross's style gives the main effect to look like a snow

Yes Ross it is your style.Well thing is this.I made first image whitout snow but when I was appling different styles I saw that with this one I could get nice snow ambient so I colored ground and roof with white colour ,added your style,little fog and that is it.

I did not have smarter things today so...

I never heard of it but I believe it is something like deep paint,thing that allow us to paint with brushed directly on your model,maybe they have some plans for sketchup wich would be excellent,so my suggestions is to try it and it is beta wich means free ,nothing to loose except time

Sorry for late reply,I had some problems with my eyes so today I finally see some things.
James it was maybe 20 minutes with minimun settings.Like I said I am not so good at kerkythea.
Frederik look again at bottle at formfonts and you will see there are two configurations,one whitout texture and one with the texture.
I agree it would be fun to add better render presets but with my 256 MB RAM I dont want to even try

Here is my litle tryout on kerkythea,nothing special and cannot be compared to other kerky users but I am satisfied because rendering is not my better side.Hope you like it and c%c always welcome

or we could join and make model of moon in sketchup and render in some photorealistic software and send to google
