Dual Core vs. Quad Core SketchUp/vRay

Hi

Just recently found out that SketchUp is a single core program (I'm pretty new to it), however, rendering with vRay uses multiple cores.

I might be updating my laptop soon, 2.5Ghz core 2 duo, and I'm looking at the quad core 1.73Ghz i7. Would the i7 run SketchUp slower than my current laptop, but improve rendering times?
