Great thanks guys, will look into this, found this on a google group forum that proves it is possible, and indeed sketchy physics is the way to do it.

Drop components into a bowl or vase in a lifelike manner?
Hi guys,
I am currently involved in creating some works for a portfolio and have hit upon a problem that i don't seem to be able to work out a solution by myself. Maybe I could call on your expertise?
I have a series of components that represent models of candy sweets, different shapes and all roughly 20 mm cubes, or 20 mm diameter disks. i want to arrange these items into a bowl or better still a glass jar to photorender. The problem is I cannot find an easy way to do this.
I have struggled with the 'drop' comman as the sweets all remained 'flat' or level, and didnt exactly fall naturally, and more often than not would not actually hit the bottom of the jar, just falling to level with the upper lip of the jar.
Then I tried sketchyphysics to get items to drop naturally, but I had similar problems with this also. The sweets just hit the level of the top edge of the jar and wouldnt go in, nor would they fall naturally.
I tried the spray plug in but the components actually intersected with each other and all lay flat on the ground plane.
This is driving me nuts, anyone got any good ideas?
