    • RE: [Debug] RoundCorner slow performance

I just came across this thread today when browsing through the "normal" Round Corner thread.

I had posted about the sluggish behavior on my first iMac 2.4 GHz Core2Duo several months ago and then needed to divert my attention to other things.

The problem was not related to opening it but to using it. Selecting edges, changing fillet dimensions and number of segments took several seconds for the tool to react to.

Now with my newer 27" i7 quad core at 2.93GHz things are a bit quicker and I can use the tool, but performance is still sluggish and not even remotely comparable to the WinXP installation that I have running on VMware Fusion on this same machine.

I followed the instructions and a trace file is attached. I hope it provides you with useful information. Anyway, great plugin and very useful (in Windows πŸ˜‰

    • RE: [Plugin Library] LibFredo6 - v15.4d - 14 Aug 25

I've reported this quite a while ago (months) and the issue still exists. O my first iMac(Core2Duo 2.4 GHz) this plugin performed so sluggish that it was unusable. The menu items and 3D space updates when selecting edges took several seconds to update and that lag between user action and reaction of the tool rendered it not usable.

Now I have a 27" iMac 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7 with 12GB Ram (even though I doubt the latter makes any difference in this case). And while naturally this machine is much faster there still is a very definite lag between user input and reaction of the tool. Usable but really only barely. Noting for continued use.

I also have a Windows XP running in VMware fusion on the same machine and have don't have these problems there. Even though it's running in a VM reaction to user input is instantaneous. No perceivable lag whatsoever!

I've worked some with the Skindigo exporter plugin in OSX and that works smooth as butter. Quite strange!

      Fredo,

I just downloaded Joint Push-Pull and Tools on Surface and both are very responsive (in OSX) and I don't experience the sluggishness I encounter when working with RoundCorner.

BTW. What awesome tools you have created here. Until now my main workhorse has been Blender (http://www.blender.org). Now with Sketchup and these powerful plugins that you have created I have another powerful tool.

      Thanks!!!

      Fredo,

I get the sluggish behavior even with a simple cube. I see the buttons respond but have to be very slow with the mouse. I also see the Spinning Ball quite often.

I came across a thread here a Sketchucation and it appears this may be a Sketchup 7.1 Mac only problem as several users have complained about the generally sluggish behavior of Sketchup 7. I tested Roundcorner with Sketchup 7.1 in VMware Fusion on my iMac on a Win Vista installation and it works fine.

I hope Google fixes this Mac related Sketchup performance problem soon!

I own a Indigo license (http://www.indigorenderer.com) and the SkIndigo exporter, another Sketchup plugin, works fine on my iMac.

      Hi Fredo,

First of all Thanks! for this plugin. Works very nicely on the mobile CAD workstation at Work (2.9 Ghz Core2Duo).

However after installing it on my iMac (2.4 Ghz Core2Duo 4GB of RAM), when using it, it reacts extremely slow (Sketchup 7.1) to the point of being unusable. It does create the geometry but, again, when clicking on any of the plugin's UI elements it takes several seconds to result in a response.

Any ideas what the reasons may be for it ?
