Hello and welcome. Although SU has only limited capabilities with texture positioning, you can still achieve some good results. Here is "all" the SU Guide tells us about texture positioning (you may be interested in the material somewhere at the bottom where it writes about wrapping and projecting). Note that SU will always allow to access the texture tools in the right click menu only on a single face so if you are working with curved surfaces, you may first turn on hidden geometry (View menu) to get a single facet or use a "dummy" plane that you apply the texture to and position it on and then sample it and apply it on the curved surface.
