This is a shot from a live SU animation. No postproduction what so ever.
huh, seems like I'm on to something.

a bit cold for the evening scene,
it is a wander how much a bit of vegetation will do.
Davidh - neat project overall
I was a bit out of the loop on the renderers, what is a difference between biased and not biased render?
michaliszissiou,
the rendering engine is pure SU without any additions. There is even no Photoshop on it.
could you tell me a bit more what kind of reflection you would add? (or maybe even show example.)
tell us how it is usually done in VG, so we don't have to reinvent a well all around again.
broomstck - perhaps you are right. this time I was not going for photoreal, just "presentable". I made the edges light gray to compensate for lack of detail.
Oli, rclub24, Ecuadorian - my pleasure
I was working on a concept for a 333m tall tower. I wanted to figure out how to make a simple low poly form to be presentable without rendering it or building any details into it.
well, I did figure it out.
I just stole photo details from other buildings and stretched them over my low poly form!!! well, I also put a semitransparent surface on the side with the background image to simulate reflections.
But that is IT!!!! the image is PURE SU, very low poly and super fast to do.

thank you,
that was not meant to be an exact copy, neither I did it for fun. I wanted to capture the magic of the original photo with a hope that I do it again on another building.
here is some other work I did here in Beijing. The party secretary wanted something very youthful but still authoritative. very open and transparent to the public, but it had to be warm and welcoming, and very strict. And of course like everywhere in China - every one wants to look green (because the party said so). So here is what came our of it.
Just like before - I don't get to have too much fun with the images. These days I'm a design director/ senior architect in a mid size architectural company, so I get to render either when it is really slow or on my own time.
wow, so many years have passed and people still remember.
Glad to be here.
Since, google destroyed the original forum, I lost the track of what is going on. Now I see amazing things here. So I'm back and will be posting.
this is a photo I got from google earth the burned building next to CCTV. I thought it would be an interesting test to recreate it. I was a bit disappointed on how quick it all happened. Couple hours and all is done. I had to step on my architect's throat to do this model in photomatch - nothing lines up no 90 degree angles. But guess what - for a recreation it all doesn't matter - just make a picture.
