So I originally posted this question in the Newbie forum, but realized that this might be a better place for it. The post is as follows:

      Hi,

I am a decently experienced SketchUp user but I have just discovered the Ruby Console and ruby plugins. I know that the plugins can help make life easier in my model, but the question I have is can the plugins make getting information out of my model easier?

Specifically what I would like to do is select a surface (or a bunch of surfaces) have SketchUp go through a series of actions (like run the shade analysis) and then get a report of whether or not a shadow hit the selected surface(s) during the course of the actions.

I have coded a little in the past (never Ruby) and am confident that I can pick it up, but I guess I am looking for some guidance and help.

I heard that this is an amazing site with a lot of great people, so thanks in advance for any advice.
