    • Weird stuff going on here…

      Hey guys,

I just built a new rig in January and about a week ago have been experiencing some strange things when working in SU. First off the program would close all of a sudden or would give me an error message saying something about a “Runtime Error”. When selecting objects within a model it would highlight a face behind it and not the face in front, same when using the tapemeasure it can’t seem to stay on axis when passing over a face.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled SU and using update v10.3.9 with on resolve. All drivers for my hardware are up to date so I really don’t think it’s the hardware. I’m on Windows XP Pro and I think my new rig can handle SU. All other programs and games are running fine. Below are my new specs…

      SPECS:
      MB: ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA V1.03
      CPU: INTEL C2D E6850 G0 @ 3.6GHz
      RAM: Corsair XMS2 DOMINATOR 8500C5D 4x1GB 5-5-5-15-2T
      GPU: ATI Radeon HD 2900XT 1GB @ 850MHzCore/2150MHzMem
      HD-1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB
      HD-2: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3300622AS 300GB
      HD-3: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS 750GB
      DVD: PLEXTOR PX-716AL Dual Layer
SOUND CARD: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
PSU: PC Power and Cooling ULTRA-QUIET, SILENCER 750

Is anyone having the same problems or is it just me? 😢 Need help on this. Thank you in advance.

The man who is adding fluidity and motion to this medium...great job bro!!!

Like CraigD said "Really looks like a powerful yet fast moving creature!” Most of the big fast cats use the tail as counter-balance when pursuing their target. Have you thought of adding one to Hunter? Or it must be using alien technology…ooooohhhhhh!!! Still great work MZ, can't wait for the next monster you cook

Hey MZ, Thanks as always. I noticed you have been a busy bee yourself. Keep up the great work and keep making those great tutorials we all love. Yes! I have seen that armed robot some of my inspiration from that but at a bigger scale. I want to render this but I'm still on vacation and none of the computers around here have SU loaded on them. Bummer!!!

I'm ready for a new project but I'm still deciding what I want to do, have alot fo great ideas but I'll have to wait till I get back home. I'll keep everyone updated soon.

@Director Bob, You changed your avatar...looks good. 😉 I have to put one up myself too.

      Hey Guys,

Here is a remote control assault tank I’ve been working on. I sports a high caliber mini-gum on top and two rail cannons on both sides of the main turret. Each of the four tracks are powered by electric motors inside each track assembly and can rotate independently based on terrain. It can also raise the guns total height by rotating the tracks on its tips. I’m calling her a R.A.T. (Remote Assault Tank). What do you guys think?

This was something that pop in my head and thought that it would be a fun project to do. Hope you guys like it and of course your comments are always welcome.

Well post more pics later.... 😉

    • RE: Late Christmas Upgrade

      Hi Tom,

Well that does put the brakes on now....huh!!!!

      SU6
      Scene 6 - 2.5 sec.
      Scene 7 - 3.5 sec.
      Scene 8 - 5 sec. (your 1.5 sec. faster at 3.5 sec.)
      Scene 9 - 9 sec. (your 0.5 sec. faster at 8.5 sec.)
      Scene 10 - 16 sec. (even)
      Scene 11 - 18 sec. (I'm 13 sec. faster)

No wireframe throughout the scenes. Your running a Quadro gpu, right Tom? I actually had gaming in mind when I was building this rig and you should see this rig play games...BioShock, Call of Duty 4, Unreal Toutnament III and Crysis. All on max settings except for Crysis it only let me go to High setting till I add the 1.1 patch then I'll try Very High. Details are awesome, with the light turned off and my 5.1 sound cranled up it totally draws you in the game.

I guess I should be happy with the overall performance, SU runs a lot smoother and with the CCC setting I have above all lines a straight no jaggy lines. I think the best thing is my temps are in check because of the watercooling setup.

SB: Thermalright HR-05 Fanless Chipset Cooler w/ Evercool 70x15mm Aluminum Fans

With this setup I was able to do the "Crowd Test" all the way to Scene 10 pretty smooth and zooming in and rotating still left everyone in color and happy, as I clicked on Scene 11 I was ready for the worst but then rotated then zoomed in and rotated again with a slight delay and didn't see any wire frames I said to myself...COOOOL!!! On my older rig I was seeing wire frame at Scene 7 or 8, so I'm happy so far. I also have "Use hardware acceleration" ON. Running the GPU on Catalyst 7.12 and to reduce the jaggy eadges (which I posted on Asher77 thread) in CCC (Catalyst Control Center)I have these settings...

Standard Settings: "Use custom settings" box is Checked
Anti-Aliasing: "Level" set to 4X, "Filter" select Box
Anisotropic Filtering: "Pre-pixel sample" set to 8X
Catalyst A.I.: On the slider set to Advance
Mipmap Detail Level: On the slider set to Quality

If you have an ATI card try these setting the outcome atleast for me is very smooth lines throughout the model.

      Comments very welcome. 😉

    • RE: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600

      Hey guy,

I just builted a new rig with a ATI HD2900XT with 1Gb DDR4 clocked to 850Mhz core and 2150Mhz memory, and SU6 Pro is running pretty smooth so far. Using Catalyst 7.12 and in CCC (Catalyst Control Center) to reduce the jaggies I have these settings:

Standard Settings: "Use custom settings" box is Checked
Anti-Aliasing: "Level" set to 4X, "Filter" select Box
Anisotropic Filtering: "Pre-pixel sample" set to 8X
Catalyst A.I.: On the slider set to Advance
Mipmap Detail Level: On the slider set to Quality

I also still have "Use hardware acceleration" checked or ON. I think maybe with the 1Gb DDR4 memory and the slight overclocking must be a big help.

I hope this help you guys with ATI cards out there fight the jaggy eadges. 😉

    • RE: Request for Test Hardware SKP

Hi John, I was going to go with a Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10,000rpm drive as a primary but I have a friend with one and although it is at 10,000rpm I really did not notice a true real world differance. Thanks for the heads up though.

My current rig is running an ATI X850XT Platinum Edition 512MB (almost 2yrs. old now) and have not had any issues with at all. I have read that a round here but I have never experianced it.

    • RE: Request for Test Hardware SKP

I was going to add this suggestion on the "SU wish list" thread but I saw this. I was wishing that they would make a dedicated SU benchmark that tacks the computer and at the end would give you some sort of score just like 3Dmark or like the other benches mention earlier.

I am building a new machine now and I hope it will make SU fly, I do a bit of gaming...okay alot of gaming as well as Photoshop, music, picture and video editing . Here are the specs tell me what you think.

      MB: ASUS Crosshair ROG
      CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.8GHz will clock to 3.00Ghz)
      RAM: Corsair XMS2 DOMINATOR DDR2-1066, 4x1GB sticks 4GB total
      HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250620AS 250GB 16MB cache Primary
      HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3750640AS 750GB 16MB cache Secondary
DVD: PLEXTOR PX-716AL Dual Layer, Slot loading
GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900XT 1GB GDDR4 PCIE
SOUND CARD: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
      PSU: PC Power & Cooling ULTRA-QUIET SILENCER 610 EPS12V
OS: Windows XP PRO / Vista Home Premium dual boot (Still don't know yet if I want to do that.)

I hope I covered all the bases.

    • FireGL mod for Radeon HD 2900XT

      @unknownuser said:

      Workstation graphics on the cheap

A Chinese website has posted a modded version of AMD's drivers that will turn an ATI Radeon HD 2900XT into a FireGL V8600.

This might not be all that useful to most owners of a Radeon 2900XT, but if you're into OpenGL 3D rendering and need a fast card for the previews, then a Radeon HD 2900XT will be a lot cheaper than a FireGL V8600 card.

Considering that the FireGL V8600 will set you back US$1899, while you can pick up a 1GB Radeon HD 2900XT for as little as US$499.99, you can save quite a bit of money this way.

You can download the modded drivers here and it's about a 70MB download.

Link to the modded drivers: http://www.newdisk.cn/?wesley8

I have not tested these drivers yet but I'll post some results done from other who have. This is very interesting but from what I've seen so far the drivers work.
