thx Rich- I'm just used to graphing 2d plots - old school, where x and y are left/right and top/bottom.

    • Axes and views - I have a feeling i'll be embarrassed...

i've read the axes are assigned the convention rgb=xyz. When i start a sketch and set camera to front view, i get red to right (pos x) blue up (pos y) and green z - pos or neg depending on how i orbit. I have always thought front view would show red to rt and green pos up. If is set camera top i get red to rt pos x, and green up. Have i accidentally set my axes wrong? Am i missing something dumb? If i orbit around to get the axes the way i understand them to be correct, orbit is wonky.

      Thanks

Yes, these settings are stored in a template.

    • Printing blue green background sketches w white background

      Hello all

I am trying to print some sketches without background (ie white, w black lines for object and dims). I did a search here and on youtube and could not find answer in about 20 mins -maybe wrong key words. Any help appreciated. BTW, since i started out just making sketches without setting a template, all the sketches i've done to date have the green/blue background. Am i correct that setting a template w/ one of the white background will completely avoid this in future?

      Thanks again

    • RE: Defining a work plane

Thanks Dave - after posting i looked at inferencing and i'll practice it some - I'd prefer to use it if it is practical and quick.

      Regards,

TIG's plugin is a good option but you don't really need a plugin for this. You can draw on plane without any work plane. You just need to learn to use inferencing. Or you could just draw a large rectangle and draw on it. Make it a group or component and the geometry you draw on it won't stick to it. If you frequently start with a work plane, you could even add it to your default template.

    • Defining a work plane

      Hello all,

I am a beginner to Sketchup but really like it (mostly) because it is far more intuitive to me than other packages i've tried. Most of my work is mechanical design and so i almost always start with a flat pattern, then add depth as required - many of the parts i like to make or have made are [u]very[u] quickly sketched and dimensioned in flat plane. How do i define parameters most easily to lock a plane for this? A few years ago i downloaded a "lock to plane" plug in on another computer f SU8, but when i tried to load the same program (from a link in Youtube - a guy in NZ) it wouldn't load. Is the current best alternative the TIG work plane download? Any help appreciated
