    • RE: Is measuring LUX in a model possible?

quote from AdamB "This mode is useful for determining how effective self shadowing architectural features are working in keeping surfaces cool."

I assume that that this works for 'hot' too?

And I have to agree with Thomas, not much info on your website.(And I did sniff around.)
I am a bit wary of of having to learn a whole new app without knowing what I am letting me self in for.

And perhaps i have'nt been clear about what I'm after, I would like the actual numbers relating to LUX. Purely in regard to how much light a plant might receive from normal daylight. (Thru a skylight for example.)
Along with the time/date and how much extra light energy it might require to be healthy.

If I understand lux at all, it's all about angles (and mathematics, at which I am not at all good at. I am, however, reely good at grammer tho:)
      Anyway, it's all good.

    • Is measuring LUX in a model possible?

      Hello all,
Is it possible to get lux information from surfaces in a model with a ruby?
One of my clients builds Greenwalls (vertical gardens), and already finds my shadow studies useful, but if I could tell him how much light is actually hitting his plants it would make his job much easier and it would'nt hurt me either:)
Attached project is not a great example and never got past a feasibility study but it was surrounded by tall buildings and faced south so lux info could have been useful for plant selection. The client is doing quite a few interior installs where lux info is becoming essential.
I have no idea about the math involved in such a ruby, sounds complicated tho.
      Too hard?

I will check out the 'new' technique and post again in 3/4 days.

Hi Tom,I've just logged on to post v5, so I hav'nt read your post properly yet.
But my first thoughts about your views versus Richards are about what a render is for.
Usually I guess this is largely up to the client, who of course is always right 😞
In this case it's entirely subjective as well as making me think hard about process, intention et al.
However, here's my latest attempt following Dicks' advice.
For some reason the trees gain colour in the conversion from psd to jpg, something to do with how P/shop assigns colour profiles i think, back to the manual.

justin, the whole entourage thing is open to debate from what I've seen, I've read many comments on this forum for and against.

Ps: It might be useful to show you the reference for the render - a house in my neighborhood that caught my eye.
Pps: Now that is interesting, the photo is uncropped straight from the camera, this is the first time I've put it next to the render, and the view is almost exactly the same in both.

Oh dear, this seems to be getting worse.
I have'nt been able to figure out how to desaturate the tree colours in Su.
Instead I tried increasing the opacity, but that did'nt work.
Tried fog but it looked, well, too foggy.
The sand texture I tried resizing every which way but I cant't get rid of the tiling, tho it's a bit better.
I dumped the bike, (I thought the bike was the best bit!) and the potplant, I presume that suggestion was to avoid pulling focus from the building.
I think I'd better spend some time learning how to use masks in PS, then I should, I suppose, be able to adjust individual colours and tones.

Wow, did you apply these plants with the Component Spray while in an horizontal position? Hey, Edson, you could do the same! rotate your project, spray some plants, and then rotate the project again.

Unfortunately not, I'm not sure that the ruby was around when I did these.
So each planted was scaled a few times and dotted around, I should have put more effort into the ferns to stop them appearing so uniform but deadlines, etc...

    • RE: Vertical garden texture needed

I've done some work for Fytogreen who make vertical gardens here in Australia.
I did these two a couple of years ago, I could probly do better now.
As mentioned the poly count gets unmanageable, wall.jpg shows native su with component plants rotated, not very realistic. And almost too much for my puter.
For the second job I built each group of plants separately, exported them at hi-res with transparency and used them as textures on the bald model.
It was a pain but the final result was acceptable. (these first two subsequently had a bit of work done on them to remove seams etc, these pics are straight su output)
If you think you could use any of these to save you some time, pm me.

DH. As promised here is a selection of some of the rubies I use most often, there are many, many more. I've lashed up a few quick examples, very basic, but you will get the idea.
Most are very generously donated by the ruby wizards, others are for purchase for very little from Smustard, amongst others. (Those below are all free)
Some come with documentation, others are obvious, and yes it's easy to get swamped with them.
I tend to grab them when I see them and put em in an 'Unplugged rubies' folder. Then load them one at at time and decide if I will find them useful, if not, then back they go to unplugged, cos you never know. (It's often useful to open them in notepad for any documentation.)
As well as these, I find 'Purge', 'Start front face tool' and "copy along path' essential.
I hope you will find this useful, you gotta get into rubies, every time a ruby wiz releases a new ruby its almost like getting a new version of sketchup.

I'm sure others will have a few recomendations too.
