Thats an awesome model, and great rendering.

I use vray and Max9 for site ads and brochures but find the time setting up all textures cumbersome, do you have any advise?

Have you tried vray for SU yet.

      thanks for the comment;-)

Well, there are few ways of exporting your model with textures directly to max. (uff, I wrote a couple of tutorials couple of years ago on the old forum, but they are deleted, so here me go again, but short version;-)))

      Ok

step one, model your model, and texture it in SU.

then click/ export / single object (if you use SU 6, or "by geometry" if you use SU 5 (recommended for export is SU 5))

materials; export texture maps / preserving texture coordinates (all of your geometry is smooth in max) if you export "velding vertices", than you will have faceted faces in max, and you don't want that;-)))

units MUST be set on meters....

      click EXPORT

      Ok, when in max

Import your model, click materials (M), then choose pick tool, and you will get a subdivided material box. (for example three materials), go one by one, click; Default/ chosse vray mtl, and open ; DIFUSE, and click on the texture taht should carry the same name as your material, and click (show material, that little blue rubic cube;-))) you shoul be able to see your SU material, which have the ability to gain your VRAY attributes 😉

      and that is it, enjoy;-))

I hope this helped you a bit, if you don't understand, send me a PM, an I will be more than happy to help you;-)

      cheers 😎

Hy folks, this is something I started modeling yesterday, this is at the very start, and I believe that it will take me couple of weeks to finish, but I am having great fun modeling and rendering this;-)

I will post updates as I progress, I still don't have the full vision regarding the architecture, so this could be some kind of a study model;-)

      Cheers

      Andrija,

I was wondering if you might share with our users what type and speed of machine you use, and what your rendering times and usuability is like...

      thanks

      Hy Kristoff

well, I use a bunch of computers for rendering, but only two for modeling. One at home/private practice. And one at my full time job.

They are pretty much a like;-)

      Here is a configuration;

CPU: Int. core 2 Quad Q6600, overclocked at 4x 3000 mhz ( 12 000 mhz of raw rendering power), but unfortunately, since SU i a single core using software, not much use for speed here 😞

VGA: ASUS en 8800 gts 640 mb ddr3, I would say a beast amongst graphic cards

MBO; ASUS P5K Premium wifi-AP beast of motherboard, supports anything that you are willing to put in front of her

MEM: 2x2gb ddr2 800mhz ocz superlatent ram... 4 gigs in total, waiting for 4 more soon :100k:

      MONITORS: 1x 22" samsung 225 bw 1680x1050
      1x 19" samsung 913 n 1280x1024

      650 w power suply,

      4 x 320 gb sata2 seagate baracudas in raid 0+1

and bunch of other useful stuff

We also have 4 amd 5000 based comps that we use for rendering farm;-)

      here is a pic of my home configuration;

all in all I am quite pleased with this comp, my rendering times depend on the speed and the settings. For instance, the siemmens renderings 1680x1050, low quality (like I have upload on forum) it takse between 20 minutes and one hour per rendering... but for hy res and better quality, it can take even couple of hours 😡

I hope this helps a bit;-)

      cheers

    • Hello to all of you;-) What happened...?

      Hy folks;-)

I am a bit confused here? I have been away for some time, mostly business, but I can see that there has been some kind of a revolution? He he, like a bounty? I saw Shauns post, on SU forum, and clicked here and I can see that a bunch of you "moved" over here...

So I would like to hear what happened;-)

I see that a bunch of friendly faces are over here, which is great, but I am still a little bit confused;-)))

cheers, and Hy to all of you
