Alex, good news is "layer0" is "RED_RECTANGLE" so the problem is fixable. Bad news, the missing entities may be "unsupported" by Dxf_In. Sorry, but the math for those entities
may be
(or not) beyond me. I will take a look.Is the attached image the one that you are looking for?[attachment=0:fq5clw9c]<!-- ia0 -->Temp00.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:fq5clw9c]If not tell me what is wrong? The line that intersects the circle is on "layer0". I suspect that is wrong. Can you tell me what layer it's on? Perhaps layer "0".
it is almost good
the line that intersects the circle is on layer named "0" on CAD, but i see that is on "Layer0" of Sketchup. that is bad, because SU should create the later named "0", so the dxf imported should pe placed on totally different layers than that existing ones.
also: how could you import the dxf and get the entire rectangle, and almost the Block completely imported??
@tig said:
BUT you tried to import it in 'mm'... I did it in 'm' - as I explained before.......
I worked fine for me...
WHAT are the units you are working in ...
sorry TIG, i knew i forgot to change something.
when putting to m , it works,
but i don't understand why is crashing at mm, though.
and a second one, why the file needs to be saved as 2004 ascii dxf, could;nt you make it up-to-date to ascii 2010 drawing?
thanks anyways for this wonderful plugin!

You have NOT trimmed down the file to include just 'Text' !!
You have simply switched other layers 'off' - these are still there and so Sketchup WILL try to import them !!!
Here's a properly reduced version of the DXF...
i tryed what you have sent me
still, it crashes

Sketchup doesn't import dwf/dxf text that's why I wrote the script...
It is a good idea to reduce the dxf down to just the text items- it speeds the import and aaoids errors. It's easy to make a copy of the file in your CAD app and then filter to leave just the dtext/mtext etc, then purge and audit the dwg, then finally save as a ~r2004 DXF...
i have done what you said, and still SU crashes right before imports the text
here is the 2004 ASCII drawing.DXF , only with text (just text)
btw, i have intel i5 750, 2gb ddram3, video Geforce GTS250, win7 64 bit, and SU8
Also: Blender 2.49 has a very powerful DXF importer. I have tested it and installed everything includin text blocks all correct , without an error. Single thing that is not working are the layers. Unfortunately blender in not as quick and simple as SU
I wonder if you could take a look into how that Importer in made, so you could adapt it to SU.
the rectangle lacks an edge for some reason by the way, as seen here:
it would be best to make possible to add the layers imported into Su, on different layers than SU's layers, cause currently it puts some geometry on Layer0 of SU, which is not good at all.
i have made another file, much simple one.
0 (contains a polyline)
blue circle
red rectangle
yellow Block
Though layer system now works with your new plugin, but is not accurate: i ,mean the red rectangle is placed on Layer0(of SU default), but it should appear on a different one: that is Red Rectangle not to be placed on Layer0(defaultSUlayer).
(bytheway: if i hide Layer0-everything dissapears- this is strange because on layer Red Rectangle should be only a rectangle, and SU for some reason puts the rectangle on Layer0 with also everything!! strange, you can see that is no Red Rectangle layer in SU, after importing the file)
here's the file, please check it out.
testlayers.dxf
i give you the files that i have to work with.
the big one is the one i need, but since is so big, and take a lot of time to import, i made another(smaller) with only a section of the model, so can take a look rapidly
here is the link from where you can access them: http://dl.transfer.ro/transfer_ro-24mar-5c4a282f1f55.zip
small part-VICTORIA_CUERPO_BELLO.dxf
VICTORIA_CUERPO_BELLO.dxf
notice! i didn't explode the model, so they can import badly with lacking of details. I don't find where i put the exploded ones. If you need them too, tell me, and i will upload them also.
and by the way the import_text makes SU crashing when i want to import the file that's why i'm asking
here is the pdf of what should appear in SU , but only in CAD, as DraftSight, which is new and free sees :
small-victoria_cuerpo_bello.pdf
victoria_cuerpo_bello.pdf
yeah, for some reason the file cannot import into Acad. I had a dwg, which i saved into dxf in order to work with the file in SU andBlender. Now, Blender 2.49 imports the file perfectly, i mean flawlessly with text and everything like i see it on CAD software i use: DraftSight. When i open the file in SU, the same file as in Blender, the model comes with a lot of deformations and with the text missing- I mean through SU 8 PRO native dwg/dxf importerthat comes with the pro version. No matter is dwg or dxf the file will import bad.
So i am using this plugin in http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=31186&start=75, which actually doesn't deform the model, but takes more time to import the file. The only problem is it doesn't import the text, and the model need to have everything exploded, so no blocks.
I hope you did understand about what i am talking about
i tried to import a dxf and SU is crashing. It is not a big file.
you can check it out: http://dl.transfer.ro/transfer_ro-23mar-7b7d941ec2f2cc8f.zip (it expires in 10 days)
Honoluludesktop: thank you very much for this plugin
one thing though, i tested on a file and i saw that the it doesn't import the text intro SU.
could you adjust that please, also if it is possible to add the possibility to maintain the Cad Layers on SU, after the import.
thanks a tonne!
i have installed the plugin, and when i click on union or any other button, SU8 simply does't work anymore well, i cannot even select the solids anymore with left click , only with right click.
and Coolean didn't complete his job either
does it work for you in SU8 ?
does it work in Sketchup 8, the plugin?
cuz in don;t seem to find it anyware in the SU interface
what about a DWG/DXF export plugin for SU free ???
@tig said:
Are you making a 'group' or a 'component' - it needs a 'group'...
It won't work with 'component instances' only on two groups...
owww sorry, i wasn't paying attention to the explenantion of the plugin. I read component instead of group.
So everything needs to be as a group.
Thanks TIG
@tig said:
The problem is that you don't have two groups selected!
The arc looks grouped but you can't easily group a single line.
Add another line to it, then group them - then edit the group and erase the unneeded line - you have group with one line in it.
EEbyEdges should then work.
EEbyEdges is really designed to extrude multiple grouped edges...
If you didn't group the arc and then use my EEbyVector tool, it should then extrude along any line you pick by points...
the same thing is happening
it works only when a have the simple arc (not as componen) adn apply the vector extrusion.
Ok, then what there's to be done to make something actually work with extrude edges by edges ?
@unknownuser said:
Yes, have you had problems using it?
yes i do
as you can see i created 2 groups: first a line and second the arc. I select first the arc and then the path and i click on the EdgebyEdge, but i get this error as you can see on the screen
