Problem with model display
My model is creating a cut line through it.
Any ideas? It started to do this after I place the view point in a specific spot of the model. I was getting this a lot on my old system but I figured it was because of a crappy graphics card. My new system has a GT 635 (dells version of Gt630) with up to date drivers.
Is this due to a setting I can change?
Thanks I am just learning this and any help would be vastly appreciated.

RE: Gt 635 vs gtx 660 graphic card for sketch up
Thanks. So does that mean I can just forget about upgrading my graphics card?

Gt 635 vs gtx 660 graphic card for sketch up
I have a Dell XPS 8700 with i7 and 8 GB ram. It has a Geforce GT 635 1 GB. Will an upgrade to a GTX 660 2 GB make much of a difference in sketch up? Would a GTX 760 be a ton even better.
Thanks, I am confused if it will even matter.

Landscape render program suggestions
I am new to sketch up and rendering, but have read site design for sketchup and am reading Rendering for sketchup.
My question is what in your opinion is a good integrated rendering program for someone interested in creating landscape designs with heavy plant use and variety that is also cost effective (cheaper like Twilight).
Are there any that are especially helpful with integrated trees available, replace me components, or any other helpful for landscape design features.
Thanks
Jim

RE: Should I choose a Dell precision outlet model?
Thanks.
Do you think a gtx 640 or gtx 645 ( as in the dell xps at Costco) would provide adequate sketchup performance as long as I don't use too many big 3d trees?

RE: Should I choose a Dell precision outlet model?
Thanks for the reply. My current computer is a latitude e6400 laptop, not really upgradable.
I am thinking a i7 4770 with a gtx 760 and 16 GB ram is my best bang for buck as long as it has room to upgrade video card in future.

Should I choose a Dell precision outlet model?
I am in need of a new computer to run and render sketch up landscape design models.
I was considering getting a dell xps 8700 with i7 4770 and gtx 645 (for now) card that was at Costco for $700 on sale.
Would I be better getting a dell business out precision model. I am seeing ones that I could get with a 25% off coupon for not too much more. For instance there is a t1700 with the same processor and a quadro k600. I have also seen Xeon processors with quadro 2000 and 4000 available.
I am mainly using sketchup, autocad 2012 2d and CS5 photoshop.
I am not sure what I will render in yet, but it will probably be something inside sketchup like maxwell render or something that is covered extensively in "Rendering in SketchUp: From Modeling to Presentation for Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design]"
Any opinions or other ideas for a $600 to $900 system?
Thanks!

Hardware suggestions for newbie
I am just beginning my sketchup journey as I work through Site Design for sketchup and am finishing an online course. My current computer is not cutting it and I need to upgrade. It is a 10 year old HP with an Athlon 64 3500 processor and about 2 gb ram.
I intend to do landscape designs with lots of vegetation and also get into rendering them perhaps for others also. I would like to take this as a skill set to help me find a job doing landscape design as well as possibly offering this on the side to other landscape designers/contractors.
I will be going through Rendering for sketchup book next. The long and short is I want a computer that can render as well as handle sketch up models, but of course I don't have much to spend and am just a cheap stake at heart anyways. I will also be doing photoshop cs5 and some autocad 2012 work with it (2d only).
Is it possible to build a good system capable of creating pro quality renderings for cheap? I think maybe I could pick up a dell xps 8700($700) and put a Evga gt 660 card ($150?) in it and have a decent machine? Are there any other systems that I could get cheap around the holidays and add a deal priced holiday graphics card to? If so what system and what cards should I be looking for?
I could also get a dell business outlet workstation like a precision t1700 or other models, but then we get into Xeon processors and quadro cards and I don't know how to compare these to the consumer grade stuff.
Any help welcome.
Thanks a lot!
