You will require the following 2 amazing Scripts:

      BezierSpline.rb (Thank you Fredo6)
      Skin.rb (Thank you Darrel)
      ...
      Download from Didier's Site
      http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/RUBY_Library_Depot.htm
      ...
See attached skp file for a quick tutorial
      ...
You could also use SoapSkinBubble for this and similar tasks - another fantastic script.
      ...

Howard, I have tried to use Skin.rb a few times, always with the same result. When I came across this tutorial, I was excited to see what I have been doing wrong, but, alas, I still get the same error. Using your very own skirt (if I may be so bold), I selected both top and bottom and activated skin. at the 194th click of OK, I got the error message below:skirt_error.jpg

I am using SU6.4.112 on an HP XP laptop

Thanks for any advice you can give,
        Eugene

Eugene, Darrel's skin.rb still is a kind of "WIP" and you may not have the latest version. Have a look at this thread and install the lates (I think I have that one - or maybe an even newer "beta"? πŸ˜’ )

Great tutorial. This could be used for all sorts of applications. Especially that volcano I've been thinking about.

Ok, unlucky you have the one version in which you have to click on that button for every line. It was put there for debugging purposes and was meant to be removed. The current version does not have that annoying button.

                Thanks! Worked a charm!

Hey, I tried this tutorial a while ago and liked it a lot. Then just today I thought: Hey! let's see what Chris' SketchyFFD can do with this. So I used it to make the skirt a little thinner at the middle, and give it a little whirl, and here's the result:

                  skirt.jpg

First I had to rotate it 90 degrees, then drape a few parallel lines over it, then rotate it back up again. This is in order to make it "sliced" transversely several times, so that SketchyFFD would work. This same slicing can be also done by intersecting the skirt with some horizontal planes on top of each other (I don't know why I always forget I can do that), or with Dale's knife tool included in his SDS plugin, but I don't have it yet πŸ’š.
