Can somebody help me??

Hi,
and again a question. When I try in following file Gruppe#53.skp to use "Intersect/Cut with model" (I'm not sure whether it's the right name for this function, 'cause I'm using the german version of SU) with the the hole group of my window components and strange things happen. I've also tried to use this function with a window, which wasn't in the group, and nothing happend. I assume that something with the component isn't right.
I hope someone can help me.

Malte, two things:
-
in your moödel the component (window) is set to glue to "none". Right click on it in the component browser window an under "Properties" set it to glue either to horizontal or any.
-
If you group components that are supposed to cut holes they will lose their cutting behaviour. You can only group them with the face they are actually cutting through to keep the cutting ability.
I hope this helps...

Well, setting the gluing plane did the trick for me (actually you need to re-insert the components again since something not glued to a surface in a model cannot be "re-glued").
The intersect method may work however then you lose the advantage of being able to move the components around with the cut hole (unless you select the hole itself, too but then you risk to select something behind in a more complex model, too).
-
sorry, but I didn't get what you mean with setting the gluing plane...
If you want to, you can have a look on my current project, which is in my view so far quite complex. This model shows my school, which I'm trying to rebuild after several plans I've got... http://scheersbergfest.de/schule/3d/school.skp

Hi Gaieus,
I've tried both methods, but it doesn't worked.
To cut holes in a wall with a group of components I've previously used the function "Intersect with model" and after this deleted the new face, which were above the window hole. But in this specific part of my model this doesn't work.

Hi malte,
I don't think you've done anything wrong. Using Intersect with Model should work to create a rectangle on the face which outlines all of the windows. When I tried it, one edge and the face were deleted. I've looked the model over and can't see any reason for it.
Hopefully someone from Google will have a look at it.
A Component has the ability to create a cut-out automatically. By editing your window component to glue to any surface, and selecting Cut Opening, it will create a cut-out on the face. But since the windows are Grouped instead of a Component, Groups can not automatically cut-out an opening. Grouping is used to isolate geometry, so even Components loose their ability to cut openings when applied to another Group or Component.

Malte,
I don't know if this has to do with what you experience but some of the
window components do have some 6 unnecessary extra lines/edges in them.
Looking from the purple side: nr.1, nr.8 and nr.12cheers,
