Angles in Degrees
-
To All:
I need to create a site plan from a survey. For accuracy, this will require entering the angle units in degrees, minutes and seconds. Is this possible in SketchUp? If so, how?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

yes it is... let me help... one sec.

Didier Bur has a few survey tools
http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_arc_page.htm
bottom of the page... Survey Tool.
this should be perfect for you...
also, in SketchUp you can import dwg files and other land survey format files, and all elevation data will be imported with it. meaning lines will come in at their real elevation

Thank you Kristoff. Just what the doctor ordered!

noooo problem.
let us know if you need anything at all.

Hi Kristoof,
Thanks for asking.
I have downloaded and installed surveytool.rb, but it will only turn an angle of ninety degrees regardless of what numbers I input. I tried tuning off angle snaps, downloading and reinstalling the script, but it continues to insist on drawing lines at ninety degrees only. Any ideas?
Also, it doesn't appear to draw curves.
Thanks again,
Bill

you prolly need to go into your file preferences and change the angle tolerance from 5 degrees to .1 or .01
try that and come back if it doesn't work.

Kristoff,
I don't see anything in Preferences that relates to setting angles. Under Windows - Model Info - Units, there is a place to set Angle Units - Precision, which I have set for 0.000 and I turned off Angle Snapping there as well. Still the problem persist. Sounds like there may be a bug in this script. Is this script working for you?

yes it works for me...
let me e-mail Didier...
-
what I do is to create the site plan in my CAD software, then import it into SU and do a terrain model from that
-
Didier must be on vacation or something...
let me make this bigger.

Hey Kristoff,
This is in reference to the link u posted:
http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_arc_page.htmThere are a lot of awesome tools here that i really could use but every time i click on one of the links it directs me to a page containing the ruby script.... i could copy this into a text editor but how do i convert that into a ruby script?! I really dont know much about scripting so i'd really appreciate it if u could clear this one out fer me...
Thanx a million!!

Right click on the ruby script and save target as...
Save it here:
C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\PluginsThen open SketchUp and start using your Rubies. Really simple.
Cheers.

be sure not to save a ruby script in apps like MS Word or the like since they add formatting and basically render the ruby useless. if you feel you have to open and edit something, do so with an app like notepad (simple text editor).

oh hey im sorry i think i dint xplain the problem clear enough.... the thing is wenever i click on any one the links to rub scripts in "http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDep ... c_page.htm" it directs me to a page wich contains just text.... so after i copy all this text onto notepad how do i convert it from a ".txt" file to a ".rb" file before i copy it into the plug-ins folder?!
thanx again!!

Simply just save as "rubyname.rb" i.e. just type the .rb extension after the name of the ruby (always save the ruby with the same name it originally has for it needs to get loaded and at the end of the script it even refers to this name).

awesome dude!!! thnx a ton man!! i think im gona hav a looott of fun now that i know that!! thnx again!
