Good day mates.....
Just joined the forum today so....hello.
I purchased SU Pro today and I am going to dabble in exporting to 3d Max for some clay renderings, but before I do that has anyone done this in Blender yet? Looking for who faster Max vs Blender
I would like to purchase some reading material on Sketchup although I have been working in it for a year there is allot I still need to research, so what book is hot on the market..anyone...anyone?
Exciting stuff this forum ...seems better than most of the uptight ones I have endured in the past..maybe it was all of those complex software programs that sucked the life out of them.

Welcome! This is a great place, and probably the best SketchUp forum available. Check out the rendering section on the different programs people have used. This place is well organized so finding what you are looking for shouldn't be too hard. People are very friendly around here so don't worry about asking questions.

Welcome Scott.
I like your site, what program(s) did you use to create some of your images?
I really like the timber frame house.Cheers.
-
Thanks.
The TF was done in Cad and Max and Photoshop

Opps did not finish answering your question...
most of the other images were done in Cad and SU ...with maybe some touch up in Max and PS.
I have found that software is like my tools sin the garage...some days you need 1/2" wrench and some days you have to use a 13mm. Whatever works. LOL!

Hi Scotty, welcome!
When exporting to 3DS from SketchUp, click on the Options button in the Export Model dialog, and turn off "Export stand alone edges", as that will add face data to all the edges. Try an experiment with a cube, export both ways, and import both back into SketchUp to see what I'm talking about.
You will find very accomplished, creative, and helpful folks on here!
Model well!!
Cheers,
- CraigD

Welcome Scotty
In the next week or so Podium and Kerkythea(free) will be realeasing their upgraded render engines that are very well integrated into SU, I am not saying they render better than max, rather faster and easier, you may want to have a look into them. If you use v-ray then there is also a vray version for SU which has a bit of a learning curve, but well worth it as the results are awesome....infact they are all great if one takes the time to ace them.
Any questions feel free to ask here, you will be surprised how helpful this forum is.

Yeah I have to stay glued to the Kerkythea update, I have been looking at Blender but seems to not be much different than Max IMO.
I have not started Kerk yet but sounds like the one for me. I love working in max but it killing me with time it takes to set up for a render.
If Kerk can become more user friendly than its going to take the front seat at this studio!
