Any news from Google on future Sketchup versions?
-
I'm probably just being a pessimist, but it seems like Sketchup development has been all but abandoned over at Google. Are there any plans for future versions, and has anyone been able to contact the developers at all?
(Sorry if this has been already discussed or is in the wrong forum ).

I asked this before and really got no response (not that I thought anyone in the know would spill all the news if there was any). I think we are all looking forward to some improvements and hopefully some additions people have requested. I would love to see Layout actually work and work more seamlessly with Sketchup. Also, it would be nice to have some of the shadow issues worked out as well. I too hope they are still developing Sketchup but all has been quiet for quite some time so who really knows.

I don't know how you guys got this idea... I'm a developer on LayOut and we haven't stopped,
we've actually have been growing. -
Yeah. Believe the SU Team - they are working on developments.
And also think about the fact that developments in the "real business world" won't be put into public until they are ready to be put.So just relax and keep hoping...
I've seen the developers responding to "wishes" BTW...

Well that's excellent news! I just haven't seen any word on the official site, or heard anything about a new version, that's all. I'd love to see some new features in the next iteration that allows Sketchup to become more useful in non-architectural fields (hint game design hint hint). But thanks for clearing that up and filling me with hope! Hehe

This is good to hear. I guess what we were both saying is that until now it has been quite silent. Any ideas when we could see some offical word on what the development might be and maybe when we could be expecting or at least possibly be seeing a new release?

Scott, anyone who is involved into anything about present or future developments is first of all required to sign a "Non Disclosure Agreement" as you would certainly expect. So even if I knew something, I could not tell anything.
Here's the interview with John Bacus in the September issue of the SCG Newsletter for instance. Apart from this what I have publicly read already (way back when v.6 was about to be released) was the so called "fat faces" for components to cut thick walls.
I don't know however where that development is at the moment. I guess until all (most) glitches are sorted out of SU5 at the present (like see here), we cannot really think about seeing newer releases. -
Not to take you down, but I honestly think developpers still dont know wich way to go.
SketchUp is been frozen.
A look to their forums, "Home forums", speaks clearly about their stand_ by situation.
In the meantime this forums provides the hope.
Version 6 was the end.
For me Styles must end.
Text and dimension must be fixed to get their use.
And Layout fully developped.
To do so would bring back again my fully confidence.
Rest is smoke.
And non-sense.Why dont they realize?
(dont annoy anyone)ok?

Juan,
There have been three maintenance releases since v.6 (which has fairly new features + LO as still Beta) was released. I'm also pretty sure they are still working to sort out some other glitches still remained in the program.
You cannot expect them to release a new version before this is perfectly corrected! It's just they are not publishing the details...

I know Gai.
But I´m not so sure they´ll release the new version with Text,Dimension, and Layout fully developped, perfectly corrected.
That would not be a step back, but a huge step forward.
Something worth to be paid for.I would take the Styles out too.Go back to the essence. Nice and easy.
That is what I vote for.
And that is what I doubt Google will do with SketchUp.Unfortunately.

Maybe they could talk to us a little from time to time, or perhaps I do not read all topics.. Marc

Believe me, they read the Wish List quite often...
