Thanks for the tutorial! It was very clear and easy to use.
Is there a way to obtain the same results not drawing the wall in sketch-up? When I import my cad file I have used those lines to create my walls.
Any posssibilities?

Well I am a bit baffled about what you want.
What cad program are you using?
Is the cad you are bringing in 3d data or 2d?
If you can draw the desired shape in another program, why are you asking how to do it in SU?Signed, curiously confused.

Thanks for your reply. I guess if I said more it would have less confusing... sorry about that.
I have Autocad 2000. In Sketch-up I do import it as a 2D element. I then use the pencil tool to create the planes, which I then push/pull to various heights. What my question is: Is it possible to achieve the same results using that method as opposed to the method you provided. I did not have good results using my method but was successful using yours. Am I missing a trick to do it cleaner.... walls become very contorted. I do not mind going back and redrawing the walls in sketch-up.
I appreciate any comments.

Ok, I think I understand you better. You create 2d plans and bring them into SU but have a hard time making the faces easily and cleanly, correct?
For me, when I bring in Cad files I do quite a bit of preperation in Autocad first. I make sure all my lines connect, that ther are no small or stray lines and that all the lines are at 0'-0" elevation. I even go so far as to make all my lines and curves polylines and connect them, this allows me to see if there are any gaps.
Then when you biring that into SU connecting faces is much easier.
There is also a faster way to connect faces after bringing in the Cleaned up cad work. Using a Ruby Script called Make Faces. Are you familiar with the Ruby scripts?
Here are a couple links. The Make Faces requires that you have the Progress Bar as well:

C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Plugins
Then restart SU and import your cad data. Select everything and run the script by going to your Tools pulldown and find Make Faces.
Play around with it, you will get some great results.
By the way, I tried your attached file... it really needs some cleanup in Autocad before I would work with it in SU.

Well I assume since you viewed the tutorials above then you have viewed the attached SU files. Or am I misunderstanding this question

Thanks again for your reply. I will check out those links and tutorial. I do not know what Ruby scripts are... but I guess I will learn soon enough! The image I attached was not the final one I imported into SU.. but it still was not clean enough. But to come to think of it I thought I had a pretty clean file. Is there any kind of distortion with importing a CAD file? Are there any tricks like making it into a block before importing?

Gotcha.
Like I said, before I import any cad file I clean it up to a fault. I make everything a polyline and make sure all lines are zero elevation. I also delete any door and windows in the cad file. No need for them if you are using the cad information in SU.
If you would like, post the cad file and I can play around with it. You might have to zip it as I am not sure if a .dwg will upload but a .zip will.
