Reference handle for placement
-
When you copy to clipboard, Is there a method to control the handle of the object when paste is selected in another file? It doesn't seem to have a consistent or even predictable reference location.
Thanks -
There is not a "copy with base point" that I am aware of. Maybe there is a Ruby out there??? If not this would be one for the wishlist.

James I think he means to paste it by a specific point on what was copied to the clipboard. I.E. a copy with base point command.
Am I correct rhankc? -

The in should be an and... LOL. what is that a preposition replaced by a conjunction?
I would like to be able to control where the handle is when you bring it into another file; the object always has to be placed, then grabbed again with the move tool, or sometimes even rotated before the final move.
A ruby would be good...but if the rubsters could do that, I would like to have a key toggle where you can rotate the object to correct orientation before placing it the first time. Like the bracket toggle on cad.

Killing myself with the grammar here.
The copy command works fine, copy provides a method to get control.
Paste from file to file is another situation. Even in the school tutorials the tutor has to place it rotate and move.SU is far too powerful a tool, and I just think they haven't gotten around to perfecting it yet.

this is a Autocad born user issue... I had this problem when I came into sketchup...
I still to this day, paste things into SU and then move and rotate them...
you can move the base point in each component, or actually move the model around the basepoint. and there is the options in the component dialong box as to assign "glue to"
but I guess I'm lazy... cuz I still have this issue...

EDIT: (wrong answer replaced, sorry :~l)
The control point of the copied/pasted item(s) is the origin of all its stuff...the leftmost, frontmost, bottom.
Best, Tom.
