Moving Objects

How do I move entire objects? I know there is a simple answer but I have searched the entire help section of Sketch-Up, Google forum and have not been able to find any.

Basically I have created allot of modules from different components but when I try to move them only the parts move and not the entire module.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first select everything you want to move, then right click on the highlighted area and chose "make group". this should allow you to use the move tool with out stretching out your model.

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, but if you want to move a lot of things, you can make a selection box around what you want to move by clicking and holding from upper left to lower right (solid line). This will "grab" everything inside that box. Clicking and holding from upper right to lower left will "grab" everything inside that box AND everythin gyou cross through (dashed line)

Also, everything becomes sticky once you create it. Meaning, you can't just pull a face off a box and move it. To do that, you need to make it a group to "unstick" it and then it would be movable.

To move multiple objects (faces, lines, components and groups, you can click, then shift click to add/subtract, ctrl click to add, or shift+ctrl click to subtract.

Ir sounds like you might be only hovering over a single module with the Move tool instead of pre-selecting all of them.
The Move tool will only move an object that is selected, so if you have a number of modules forming a larger whole, you have a choice.

1. You can select all the relevant modules and group them...then the entire group will move together when the Move tool cursor is hovered over it....or you can select it first (with the Select tool) then move it.

2. You can select all the relevant modules, then switch to the Move tool while they are all selected and move all of them together.

Multiple selection can be made in 1 of 3 ways: You can hold down Shift and simply click on different objects to add to the selection. You can drag a selection box from the left and it will select anything that falls completely within it. You can drag a selection box from the right and it will select anything it merely touches.

Also, selection is Boolean...you can select/deselect additional items by holding down Shift.

Another question. How do I show the shaded objects. I have played around with the views for ever and only once have I gotten it to show color, texture or shade. Any one know how to switch from wire frame view to shaded object view?

Just click on the relevant mode on the Face Style toolbar. Presumably, you don't have it loaded at the moment. View > Toolbars > Face Style
