[Solved] Printing solid black rectangles....
-
Hello, you Sketchup Doctors...
I installed SU 6.0.1099 (french) on my XP/SP2 machine.... Works fine and quick, but....
When I want to print views or export 2D pictures, I always get solid black rectangles... I tried different printer drivers (Epson CX6600, Brother Laser and the virtual PDF creator printer) and different export formats (JPEG, BMP, TIFF,...), every time the same result.
I installed the same version on a very old PC (P3@450 MHz and 256 MB RAM) : it terribly slow (you bet !!), but it prints and exports OK.
Any ideas ?

Could you post the model so we could have a look see?
-
Hello, Eric !!!
- too big to upload : 1.2 MB, limit here is 512 kB
- available for you on my FTP server : ftp;//guest;ta31laBoT@www.dufau.com/data/sketchup
- this happens with every model, even the 2D guy on a blank new model.
I really think there is a problem on my machine : as I wrote, this doesn't happen on an old P3.
Thanks for caring,
F.

Hi François,
I've opened youre file and exported a jpeg image without any problem:Think to clean-up your file using "purge unused" it will reduce a bit your file size.
Just a remark.
When I saved your file on my HD and used Win Explorer the icon was a black rectangle !
After opening and saving it with SU6 I've got a normal image. I don't know why... -
François,
I think this is some hardware (most probably videocard) issue though I am not a computer specialist.
Try this: go to Window > Preferences > OpenGL settings and turn hardware acceleration off. Let's see if it helps (you can also "experiment" with other settings there). -
Hi people !!!
Another problem apparently solved by accident...
I uncheck the hardware accel box : model's view jammed, no way to get it back but to exit the program... Then I started SU again and I got a message about my incoherent OpenGL settings being reset to default, and tadaaa !! view OK, I can export a JPEG, preview and print !!!
Probably my registry was holding wrong settings... or another bad trick from the mean little man hidden inside my computer...
BTW, Jean-Franco, what is this "purge unused thing you're talking about ?
Well thanXX anyway, folks...

François,
you have to open the Window menu > model info > statistics then press the button and it's done ! So easy.
As you have the french version: Fenêtre > Infos du modèle > Statistiques > Purger les élements inutilisés . -
It deletes (purges) all unused components, materials and styles from your model. They can really add a lot of weight when just playing around and experimenting with stuff.
Sorry about that gitch with the OpenGL settings but glad to hear it was OK at the end.

Hi all,
Having had similar problems, I've had a reply from Google Sketchup...
For me its my particular video card (ATI Mobility Radeon 9700) that simply can't stand having Hardware Acceleration turned on under SU6. It worked perfectly well with SU5... weird.See this thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/Sketchup-Pro/browse_thread/thread/7aa2a4dd5ef40190#17aa3783531eb585 -
I moved the topic to the Bug Reports subforum though it was obviously "solved".
-
Good morning, Gaieus !!
I just installed the latest driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon Whatever Video Adapter and the problem seems to be solved, even with the h/w accel checked.
-
Good news!
I should get a new machine, not new drivers! -
So SU uses the graphics card when it renders views? (print and 2D saves)
I thought I read somewhere, where the question was why saving a png didn't match what was on the screen (in terms of anti-aliasing), that SU used software rendering when saving 2D graphics. Maybe that was an older version?
