A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

Hey Greg,
I like new computers too, but if you want to run SU on a laptop its just a heads up that you need to by a 3-button mouse with it.
As for specs there is one right here to help you. -
Hey guys, newbie to the forum, but I have been using skethup for a few years. Hoping to tap into the brains trust, and hopefully aid some people as well. Look forward to working with you guys.

Hi Mike and welcome!

Greetings Everyone!
Started using SketchUp a few days ago and like a drug addict, I just can't get enough. I'm a former mechanical product engineer and come from a world of Pro/E, Acad, SolidEdge, etc. This is by far the most intuitive program and I'm really enjoying it.
BTW, I've been working on modifying my entertainment center using SketchUp first and have run into a few minor questions... guess I need to post it in the appropriate area so as not to offend anyone?
Thanks and look forward to mingling some more.

I come from an ancient country, China. Here to tell you hello!

Hi,
My name is Mark and I'm hoping to learn to draw building floor plans that I can later make 3d and go inside. I want to build an addition on my house so I thought I'd try that first. I made a basic floor plan of my existing house but just used lines. I'm thinking that was a mistake and I'll probably have to start over. What are the best tools to use to get started from scratch? -
Hello,
I'm a very basic user of SketchUp. The only tricky thing I can do is sometimes get "Follow me" to work which I learned when I wanted to model a heated towel bar with curved metal tubes. I was so proud of myself!. I love SU! I modeled up the tile layout of my bathroom which saved me from all manner of misunderstandings with the tile guys! I have laid out poultry pens (I raise show chickens) and have been slowly working on a model of the Vila of Papyri (very slowly). Currently, I am trying out various profiles of crown moulding for the same bathroom as the tile.

Hi Bantymom and glad you could make it through your email issues.
These sound interesting (especially the villa )

Here you'll find basic info on what each button/tab does in the styles dialog box...

This button will let you browse to your chosen style and apply it

I downloaded some styles shared by Lin.

I want to try to use them and I can't seem to get them into the Styles window.
Also, How can I edit my profile?
Kind regards,

Hello,
Just joined and I'm glad to be here. I already have a stupid question...
How do I import new styles into the Sketch Up program.
Kind regards,
Chuck -
U can edit your profile in your User Control Panel at the top of the page.
Styles can be saved in your styles folder for windows pc( don't know for mac?) which is located in program file/google.... Etc
then they are accessible from styles dialog box. Any styles you creates yourself can be saved too using the styles dialog box by 'add to collection' button.
But it's been awhile since I played with styles
Oh and welcome

Welcome to the forums!
Yes, thank you very much for helping with that.
The villa is very hard, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm enjoying it. The hardest part was finding a large enough picture of the sketch of the site. I have the Getty museum version, of course, but I doubt it was made to be correct. Not that I have the knowledge to make it correct either, but I'm only doing it for fun. I think it must have been beautiful.

Bonjour tout le monde! Sorry for my english, but I'm not sure to find all the informations I need on the french forums. So I came here... I'm Greg, working in an architecture studio, and always need to go further in this amazing software. I'll have some questions soon, no doubt. Thank you by advance for the answers, I'll try to show the (r)evolution in my works online. Have a good day!
-
Hi Greg as well and welcome. To make sure, I have added you to the French usergroup (you can join any public UG's under your User control panel > Usergroups tab).
-
Thanks Gaieus! I had a look on it. But something very frustrating happens; there 's a bunch aof interresting plugins or attached pictures that I've not the permission to see. Did something fail during my registration? Are the newbies under a quarantine for a while? And I always have to login again. Does it come from my settings? I'm on Mac. Thanks
-
There is no quarantine for newbies of course - I don't know what's happening with your account. Maybe try to clear your browser cookies (see this announcement, too).

Hi
Another newbie i am particularly interested in hull forms on ships although i have just started out on this i get the impression there is an add on that will help with modelling these curves.
Any advice or info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi all.
I found SketchUp yesterday. I had a homework that was to decorate an apartment. It wasent the funniest thing to do so i started to look after some fun programs. Then i walked over this one. I decided to try it out and i liked it very much . Im a totally nowbie to everything who has with 3D stuff and so. Ive only done an oven with very few details. I count that one as my real first model. But it aint done yet and its just one part in my apartment. I will look on some tutorials and try to get better, much better.
Thats all from me right now.

Hi Rambola and welcome!
That oven (even if not the most exciting subject) is a very impressive and pretty "first model" actually!
Congrats!
(You should see what I did first...)
