Hi, as far as I know, the city generator project by some forum members is not complete yet, but you can find the street generator module here:

                        Hi~
I am transfer student from Korea to America ^^
I have an opportunity to learn Sketchup in University.
I never seen this program in Korea
I want to use it well.
So I have some questions ^^
First one, mine is Sketup 6, so what is difference between version 6 and 7 ?
Second, I heard Sketup can import CAD file, so how about MAX file ?

If I am good at using this program, it is not a big problem to make my work, it will be much easier ^^

I will keep in touching this site usually ^^
I hope so this site gives me some useful informations ^^

                          Welome!
First, you will want to download version 7 for free. Overall it is faster and more stable. Both versions will import .dwg or .dxf from AutoCad. Usually you want to bring SketchUp into Max and not the other way, but if you must, simply export from Max as a .3ds and import that into SU.
Hope you do well in your class.

                            Hi,

Just signed up a minute a go.
I am a student from Holland and have a bit of experience with the 3D-CAD program Catia V5. I used it for a internship in Holland.
I always had trouble with some of the functions from the system, it's a good program if you want to calculated the strength of a construction but I think it's to much work for some simple things.

Begin of september I have started a internship in Indonesia, I needed a program to design a workshop and I found sketch-up last week. Really love the program, it has all the things I missed with the other program and have mastered the basics in nearly two evenenings.

                            Example:

                            http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/3738/overzichtwerkplaatsv6.jpg

Only having some trouble with uploading my products, sketch-up won't sign me in. I got the username and password right but I shall look in to it this week.

Just a short introducing and gonna take al look at this site, maybe I have a few guestions in the future.

                            Greets,
                            Jos

Sometimes when I cut away a surface, like for example a window construction with 6 windows, I can't see through the middle window. Not because there is still a surface but just some lines and a transparant grey area. Is this common?

                                          Just introducing myself.

I am a rank newbie to CAD/CAM (I know what it does, but my day job was in the s'ware engineering, not mech engineering department; the closest I got to AutoCAD was looking over other people's shoulders). Now I'm retired and working on boats for fun and occasional profit, and I am kind of excited about using Sketchup to model boat hulls and interiors -- first project would be modelling the interior of my own boat, in order to visualise various options for a planned remodel.

The catch is of course that boats are all made of weird angles and complex contours -- nothing is parallel or orthogonal and a lot of surfaces have compound curvature -- and curved surfaces seem to be kind of an advanced topic (requiring plugins of various kinds) in Sketchup. [I did get "skin23" plugin but so far have not managed to get it to do anything at all 😄 I suspect it may require some other plugin that I don't yet have -- either that or it doesn't like SU7.] I'd sure like to know how the authors made e.g. the sails of the various spiffy boat models I've been looking at. Being able to warp or deform plane surfaces by various (catenary, hyperbolic, parabolic, spherical, etc) algorithms would be very handy.

At any rate, my top priority is to learn how to make flat shapes into complex curves, such as fabric (or sheet steel) under tension; sail forms, hull forms, foils, etc. Any tips or pointers would be most welcome.

Nothing is 'mere'. -- Richard Feynman
