Disappearing groups

I have a drawing that is made up of several groups. I make a new group. When I double click on the new group to make it editable, all the groups that I created prior, disappear. The prior groups seem to be deleted out of the drawing. What up with this?

There's a setting under View > Component Edit.
If it's set to 'hide rest of model' you can't see anything outside of the current edit-context.
The things are not deleted, just not shown.
This can be useful to see what you are doing by 'hiding' unwanted bits, or annoying if you want to snap to something outside of the edit-context...
So use that menu item to set it up as you want in the circumstances...
You can also shortcut it under your preferences, if you find yourself needing to switch between the two display modes often... -
