Having trouble getting one thing to fit onto another

Hi,
Because the objects are always far off from one another, I frequently have to make multiple attempts to snap one object to another. Although it appears to be close, when I look at it from a different angle, I can see that it is still quite a distance away. Is there a specific approach that accomplishes this better? run 3
