A real life work in progress
-
I'm working on a piece that is nearly 40 years late, a wedding present for my best mate and his extraordinary wife. It's one of those things that I have always had in the back of my mind and redesign as my working life has developed. What I would have produced 40 years ago would be very different to what will eventually emerge. Anyway, many times over the years I have started to design it and more recently in sketchup, each design has sort of faded away as I felt I wanted to go a different way.
Recently while have a cup of tea on the upper deck and discussing how the ideas I had for it had developed and joking about whether the 'gift' would ever be done, Alison said,'with the kids when they were struggling with ideas for assignments I always said to them, Just write the first sentence!'
Well, she made a good point, so today I took my rather boring 2 inch thick bread board and wrote the first sentence.
The idea is it will be the foreground coastline for a storm-lashed lighthouse in a stained glass panel, the rest will develop from here and this base can now be used to design the 3d printed and glass sections in Sketchup.
I have carved both sides (they are very different) and it is Camphor Laurel, so it smells wonderful too. This is just the start, will no doubt change as time goes on.I figured since it was wood it was ok to post even though there isn't any sketchup yet.
