Unexpected File Format

I have two Sketchup 2017 Make files that I can no longer open. When I open or import them, I get the error
"Unexpected File Format"
I've looked for help elsewhere, but nobody has replied. Has anyone ever been able to recover a file like this? I'm just an amateur modeler, but these models represent a lot of work on my part and I am desperate to recover them. I don't have skb backups, for some reason I deleted those.
Files can be provided upon request.
Somebody please help.

I've seen some similar reports in the past. Someone from the SketchUp team has, on occasion, been able to recover the components in the file. Those were from SketchUp Pro, though.
You could ask on the SketchUp Community Forum and maybe one of the SketchUp team will help you.
