Need Help Getting Started Again
-
I've used SU for years - was there a time before Google bought it? Several years ago my desktop crashed and the laptop I had could not run SU. I've not used SU for 3, maybe 4, years. Things have changed a bit in the interval.
I now have a laptop that can run SU. I found and installed the last Google version (8.0.15158). All was good as I relearned rusty skills until I tried to access the 3D Warehouse. I got a script error and was never able to get past it.
So, I thought I'd try 2017 Make free; however, I ran into a problem with it as well. I was able to install it but can't get past the page that says it's not getting any younger. The only active options on the page are to add a license - I'm using the free version because I'm retired and the budget doesn't stretch to the cost - or choose a template. When I choose the architectural template with feet and inches it highlights but I can find no way forward. There is no OK or other button that I find as I scroll. In fact I can find no way to leave that page short of closing SU 2017 Make.
I am perfectly happy with the functions of SU 8 with the exception of the 3D Warehouse problem. I understand abandoned versions don't get but fixes or updates, but searching turns up a lot of hits about the script error - without a solution that I've found.
So, the questions come down to 2 . . .
- Is there a fix or workaround on the SU 8 3D Warehouse script error?
- How do I get past the template selection issue in SU 2017 Make?
Thank you,

The 3D Warehouse hasn't supported SketchUp 8 for a very long time and currently only supports SU2017 and newer. The old link to the Google version of the 3D Warehouse is long dead. You can go to the 3D Warehouse in your browser and download Collada files from which you should be able to import the .dae file but it's not the same.

You should be able to ignore that message and click past the thing where it asks you to add the license. SketchUp 2017 Make is still available for free for hobbyist use.

If you installed it correctly, which involves right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting run as administrator, you should be able to click on the template and it should open SketchUp.

See above.

No.

After you select the template it should just open.

DaveR, what a pleasure to find you still here and helping us great unwashed!
Can't say that I'm not disappointed that I can't reach 3D Warehouse from Ver. 8 because I have all I need there except the warehouse.
I've tried again to use 2017 Make without success. When I choose and double click a template, nothing happens. I can never get to the bottom of the window that offers the template options on this laptop. Perhaps it is a function of limited display space on the laptop. I tried double clicking and right clicking without success. I have uninstalled the 2017 Make, downloaded a fresh copy and installed it again with the same result.
Is there anything else I should try?
Again, thank you for being here and being such a great resource. You have helped me many times in the past.
