A colleague of mine had a SU 2018 and then later got a Subscription to 2019. The pandemic shut down our industry for the past 8 months and her subscription expired. I just sent her a file saved in 2018 format but she says it won't open. Suggestions.

First, the subscription license on its own doesn't disable an earlier version as long as it remains installed. Second, a later version of SketchUp can open an earlier version so assuming that your SU2018 file is not corrupted, she should be able to open it in SU2019 with no trouble. If she can't, you need to look at the file to see if it was damaged.

          Dave,

If you have a copy of the installer--of a classic licensed version, does that mean you can't install it on a new computer after the M&S has run out?

Peter, the way I understand it is that once you've activated a newer license, you can no longer install and license an older version on another computer. If they allowed that you could wind up with SketchUp on more than the two machines allowed by the classic license agreement. You can, however, continue to use the older version if it was already installed and licensed on the same computer. So for example, I still have SU2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 installed on my desktop PC and that is in addition to SU2020. I can still open and use those older versions if I have to.

Thanks. I was just thinking about before one subscribes, and keeping the (2) max. allowed installations just as we would normally when moving to new computers--indefinitely clinging to the classic license.

But down the road when one subscribes I guess it is more complicated.

I suppose it gets more complicated with the subscription and I'm not sure what will happen to 2020 when I update to 2021 since both would be under the subscription license.

To be honest I don't know why I keep those old versions installed. well, it comes in handy once in a great while when I need to create screen shots from older versions for instruction. I'd never go back to using those older versions for my day to day work, though.
