    any ideas as to why my cursor goes beserk when trying to do something inside a group or component

      Can you be more specific about what is happening? Maybe upload a GIF that shows what it is doing?

      Without more information we can only guess. Two common issues are, 1: incorrect installation. On Windows machines SketchUp must be installed by right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator. And b: graphics driver problem. What graphics card are you using with SketchUp? Maybe the drivers need an update. If it's an integrated GPU, it could be that a broken driver was pushed with a Windows update. That's not uncommon. Best is to go to the GPU manufacturer's site and download their most recent drivers to install.
