Hi guys, just catching up on SU 2020 and wondering what you all think of how you use Outliner given its improvements.
One thing that I think is a unfortunate is that in the past you could populate your template file with set scenes, set layers [visibility set in each scene] then model your project, set groups and components to desired layers then each plan, elevation, section, etc needs only minor tweaks to be ready for export to Layout.

With SU2020, this ability is gone. Unless of course you still want to use tags in the same way that you used layers but isn't the idea to move away from using tags and manipulate geometry via Outliner....? If so how do you set visibility of groups and components in a template drawing from projetc to project??

I'm interested in how your workflow operates.

Tags are just layers by another name, the name change wasn't designed to stop you using them, just to remove the confusion.
Use Tags as you would have used layers, assuming you were using them correctly, use the other new features to enhance your workflow rather than fundamentally change it.

I don't thing the idea is to move away from tags and just use Hide. It just that the visibility icon in Outliner makes it easier to hide or unhide objects. Although you can use that to set up scenes, I'm still finding that I only use Hide/Unhide as a temporary visibility control. I use tags for object visibility control and because tag visibility is easily controlled in LayOut, I don't need to create multiple scenes in Sketchup when I'm creating stacked viewports in LO. I use the same scene for each viewport in the stack.

Thanks for chiming in guys, yes I know Tags are just renamed Layers but I have seen a few videos of 2020 reviews where they say that you could move away from Tags all together.
I guess I'm still happy to stick with Tags but whether I'd get the full benefit of Outliner is yet to be seen... Why not turn of a layer rather than hide an object??
Dave, I adopt the same methodology with stacking scenes; the only issue is selecting one below another!!

As for accessing viewports lower in the stack, I put only one viewport on a layer so I can lock or turn off the ones that are in the way. I might have as many as 6 layers for viewports.
