When you place a DWG or DXF in layout it won't be used a reference file, it will be embeded. However if you import a DWG or DXF file as a Sketchup Model Reference (check the tick box while importing), the DWG or DXF file will be translate to a *.skp file which CAN be used as a reference. SO...if you can export the scenes from your model to flat (2d) *.skp file Layout will be be or remain snappy and fast...let's say useable! So if a plan changes I just exported the scenes again and my entire Layout plan is updated!!!

Oh I think I see, but not sure I can wrap my head around what this entails!!! I hope you can get it automated somehow, as just the usual SU-LO link + export from LO is already a layer or two of action beyond simple CAD where you just do the change and publish it. So many little updates expected these days in drawings (we should never have let them know we could turn it around so quickly).

😄 😄 unfortunately I have no content contribution here - but your used thread title is super because exactly this sentence I use probably a hundred times a day (in German: bin ich blöd) - and in most cases rather as a statement than as a question 😆 😆

@rv1974: Do you know where I can get the Curic Make 2D plugin? Can't find it anywhere!

                  Thanks!

You need to go to their FaceBook page. Curic and VBO are one and the same from what I can tell.

It's not free and forms part of a small suite of theirs which was until recently $59 (US), the suite as follows:

                    Curic Plugins

                    • CuricSection
                    • CuricHidden
                    • CuricStretch
                    • SceneManager
                    • CuricDIO
                    • CuricOI
                    • CuricExtend
                    • CuricPlaceComponent
                    • CuricMake2D

They have instructions on their FB page, it isn't instantaneous (about 24 hours) and payment is done using PayPal.

...I mailed Trimble that the solution for now, is to export a 2d view to a *.skp format. Layout will be snappy and usable then.
